KCLSU Student Reps play a crucial role in ensuring that all students have a voice and an opportunity to provide feedback regarding their learning experience.

Academic Reps  

Academic Reps are student volunteers who represent their peers by providing feedback on academic issues and acting as a bridge between the student body, KCLSU and the university. At King’s and KCLSU, we have over 1000 academic reps across all study levels. Reps play a crucial role in ensuring that all students have an opportunity to shape their education and learning experience. 

 

What do academic reps do?  

  • Attend student-staff meetings (sometimes called Student - Staff Liaison Committees or SSLCs). 
  • Gather constructive feedback and insights from students in their cohort. 
  • Signpost students to where they can get support 
  • Run or support representation practices (forums, surveys, focus groups). 
  • Collaborate with staff outside of SSLC meetings.  
  • Sign up for additional opportunities with KCLSU and King’s.  
  • Work with other representatives.  
  • Lead their own campaigns

Academic Board Student Members  

The Academic Board (AB) is the senior body responsible on behalf of the Council for the academic work of the university in teaching, examining, and research. The Board meets in person five times a year. Attendees include the Vice Chancellor and President, Vice - Presidents, Deans of Faculty, the Chaplaincy, KCLSU Officers, and other professional services and faculty staff.  

Academic Board Student Members are elected students who attend Academic Board as full members. Student members:  

  • Submit reports covering student voice activity in their student communities  

  • Provide advice and assurance from the King’s student community by contributing the student perspective 

  • Engage in collective decision - making with board members for the shared goal of advancing the University 

  • Communicate any Board developments with their academic association and faculty representatives 

 

Academic-related student groups 

KCLSU supports over 400 student groups, many of them dedicated and related to academic issues across King’s. Check out our group list and search function to see if your field ofr discipline has an already exiting group.

Campaigns

Any registered King’s student can start a campaign with us. We support students to campaign on the issues that impact their time at university by providing training, funding and tailored support to those that want to make a difference at King’s. 

KCLSU has supported a number of Academic campaigns in recent years including improving timetabling, saving courses from closure and lobbying for a common room for students in the Department of Political Economy.
