Sustainability Month at King's

This February sees the return of Sustainability Month at King’s. Sustainability Month is a collaboration between King’s and KCLSU which offers opportunities for everyone to get involved, learn more about sustainability and take action against climate change. There are 27 different events on throughout February. The calendar above shows a full-schedule, or you can check out a full list here. In this article, we have picked out a few events to highlight some of the exciting events taking place this month.

Show The Love

Show The Love events will be happening across all the different campus’s at King’s. At these crafty activism events, students can come together to show their support for climate justice. Everyone is encouraged to create a green heart and bring it along. These green hearts will then be used to contribute to an installation to represent this coming together for climate justice. These casual events will be a great chance for students to connect and come together behind the cause.

SDG Curriculum Mapping

At this event, you’ll have a chance to get some sustainability training and contribute to mapping King’s modules against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. If you’re interested in sustainable education, this will allow you to see how environmental and social sustainability currently sits within the King’s curriculum. This training will build key skills for sustainability, such as auditing and data analysis.

Diet and Sustainability: How to Eat to Fight Climate Change

Agriculture to produce the food we eat is one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions. Not all foods result in the same about of carbon emissions however. Meat and dairy farming produce far more emissions than crop agriculture. This means by reducing, or completely cutting out, meat and dairy we can significantly reduce our own carbon footprint. This event will feature a panel of sustainability experts who will discuss the benefits of a plant-based diet and how it fits into a more sustainable global food system. The panel will also consider how a plant-based diet can benefit individuals through improved health. At the end of the session, there will also be a Q&A section to answer any questions you might have.
