Updates from KCLSU for the next academic year

King’s has recently announced what the return to campus and academic life will look like for next year, and KCLSU has also been making plans as to how we can adapt to the new environment whilst still offering the best student experience possible. We know things are going to feel and look a little bit different, but KCLSU is here to help and ensure students still have the opportunity to thrive on and off-campus.

KCLSU Hubs

Our Hubs desks will still be open next term, to answer all your questions, help with group and society memberships, room bookings and all the usual offerings, though we will see a reduction in Hubs opening hours. The Waterloo campus Hub will be closed for now and there will be one rather than two desks open in Bush House on the Strand Campus. We will put in new measures to make sure you and our hubbies are all safe and can observe social distancing.

KCLSU Welcome

Our Hubbies will continue to be there for you all during Welcome, both in-person and online, so if you have any burning questions about KCLSU, they are your friendly faces to go to! In addition, we are working hard to make sure you can access all of KCLSU’s services remotely through our website and a new app. With social distancing measures in place whilst we will not be returning to the Barbican for the welcome fair we will be taking it online so that everyone still has the chance to meet and hear more about all our groups and societies. During Welcome we’ll also have a host of events, tips and info for new and returning students.

Philosophy Bar and Nought

The Covid-19 situation and current social distancing guidelines means we’ve had to look at how we run our commercial venues and manage our finances. When looking at our financial picture for next year, KCLSU has had to make difficult decisions and prioritise its services to students. As part of this, we have unfortunately taken the decision to permanently close two of our commercial outlets, Nought and Philosophy bar, both of which even before Covid-19 were operating at a loss.

We know both outlets had loyal followings and we want to thank all our customers and staff for all their support and hard work and dedication in Nought and Philosophy bar over the past few years. We will be sharing some great memories from both outlets in the coming weeks.

We are committed to providing a fantastic student experience in our remaining outlets and looking forward to seeing everyone back in our spaces once we re-open. We will put in new measures to make sure you and our staff are all safe and can observe social distancing.

We will have more news about what to expect in term one over the summer, so watch this space and keep an eye on our social media channels and website for ways you can get involved, find support, make connections and have fun through KCLSU in 2020/21.
