Pole fitness and body positivity

Pole fitness is the sport, the dance and the seductive expression of bodily movements. Often times when we picture a pole dancer, we envision her to be a slender female, gracefully dancing and effortlessly floating around the pole.

But the reality couldn’t be further from that. Especially when you have just started out with the sport. Even famous pole dancers like Anastasia Skukhtorova (@anastasia_shukhtorova) struggled with all the aspects of pole dancing at first.

Pole dancing is not about immediately getting everything right, looking a certain way or having a particular body shape. It’s much more about the strength, flexibility and mindset of the pole dancer - and most, if not all polers, struggle with these when they first start. But this struggle only hooks them to continue practising pole dancing, to developing the potential their bodies are capable of, and most importantly, to teaching them self-love and confidence in the comfort of their own bodies.

Pole dancing is hard, but rewarding. And it is so much beyond being sexual, or being reserved for a select pool of women (or men).

Take a look at Roz Mays (@rozthediva), for example. She inspires nearly 80k women every day of all shapes and sizes, to do what they love and what makes them feel empowered, sensual and confident.

The thing with many new polers is that they may feel a lack of self-esteem or even stress from the belief that their bodies will be under scrutiny from others. And we get it - many pole dancers have gone through whole rollercoaster rides of mental, as well as physical transformation during training. But the fact is also that no matter how positively others perceive us, if we are not content with ourselves, we will always feel as we are imperfect or ‘not good enough’.

You see, dear reader, that often times the problem does not lie within our bodies, but within our minds. Our thoughts are our own worst enemy - they are the barrier that prevents us from feeling self-esteem, happiness and satisfaction with ourselves.

You will never overcome your fears if you don’t face them. Pole dancing, especially the Pole Fitness Society at KCL, will teach you how to think positively about yourself, how to overcome your fears, and it will take you from feeling self-doubting to self-confident.

It’s not too late to be the best version of yourself - start the new year with a new you, a stronger body and an empowered mindset!

Let our Pole Fitness Society help you in your journey to greatness.
