In collaboration with the KCLSU LGBT+ Network, QTIPOC, LGBT+ Soc, Liberate KCL and Poetry Soc, we will be hosting events educating the community as well as celebrating and sharing trans stories and experiences.
What is Trans Awareness Festival?
Trans Awareness Week is now a Festival!
Given the number of exciting events coming up this year we decided to extend Trans Awareness Week. Trans Awareness Festival is now a two-weeks festival when transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the community by:
- educating the public about who transgender people are
- sharing stories and experiences
- advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community.
We will honour and celebrate the trans community at King's and beyond in collaboration with the KCLSU LGBT+ Network, QTIPOC, LGBT+ Soc, Liberate KCL and Poetry Soc. Get involved by attending one of our events and sharing trans stories. To mark Trans Awareness Festival, we also invite you to join us in signing and committing to this pledge to stand in active solidarity with the trans community at King's and in wider society. This year's theme will be 'Our Trans Tomorrow'. Transness is a force leading us into a hopeful future and we want to use these weeks to champion our trans community at King's and their futures. By moving away from the common logic that attempts to separate body and mind and define our “selves” biologically, we welcome more nuanced understandings of our humanity and warmly invite your identities' free expression.
