Students for Global Health KCL

We are the KCL branch of Students for Global Health UK, a student network and registered charity tackling global and local health inequalities through education, advocacy and community action. We have a vision of 'a fair and just world in which equity in health is a reality for all' and believe that as students our voice is essential to bringing about an equitable and healthy world of tomorrow.

With our events this year (2018/19) organised into three themes - Conflict and Health, Global Mental Health, and Evidence and Research in Global Health - there's something for everybody! Want to dive into the latest debates about humanitarianism and supporting LMICs in times of disaster? Ever wondered how people access mental healthcare in countries like Iraq or Nigeria? How do you perform surgeries when your hospital doesn't have reliable power or light? These are just some of the questions we're fascinated by.

Why buy membership?

  • As a national charity, branches from across the UK convene at National Conferences, Assemblies and Weekends, where world leading and pioneering experts meet with us!
  • Your membership subsidises travel to our national conferences and assemblies, making it cheaper for more people to go!
  • Our range of socials will also be a great way for you to meet many other interested students across King's who care about creating a more equal world!
  • As a member of SfGH you are eligible to propose policy motions on Global Health Topics and have your say in the running of the national charity!
  • We are a society for all interested students across King's, not just for health students!

See below for more information on who we are, what we do and how you can get involved:

WHY we exist

  • Many children in low income settings are dying needlessly from malnutrition or curable diseases
  • Many adults are dying because of lack of access to medicines
  • There are health inequalities both in the UK and globally which we need to address. Such issues include migration and health, climate change, access to medicines, maternal health, conflict and health, mental health and ethical procurement in the NHS.
  • WE CARE about the health of other people in the world
  • We can MAKE A DIFFERENCE

HOW we tackle these issues

  • By EDUCATING about global health issues
  • By ADVOCATING for change to improve health for all people worldwide
  • By TAKING ACTION to improve health for all people worldwide
