3:30pm - 5pm

London LGBTQ+ Community Centre, 60-62 Hopton St, SE1 9JH

Overview

Our aim is to give LGBTQ+ KCL students an opportunity to find a community. This will make students feel more at home in a new city and enhance their uni experience. We want to create an accessible event so that as many LGBTQ+ students can have this opportunity as possible. To do this we want to organise a large scale icebreaker event in at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre. This event will have the objective of:

  • Promoting queer and trans joy when many LGBTQ+ students will have difficult and upsetting experiences relating to their identity.
  • Creating a safe space for all LGBTQ+ students to feel comfortable.
  • Removing barriers for LGBTQ+ students to meet each other by:
  1. having an accessible venue that has gender neutral bathrooms.
  2. Making the event free to attend.
  3. Having a sober event.
  • Educating LGBTQ+ students at King’s about the LGBTQ+ spaces in London by using the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre. This will help them feel more connected to the wider community in London.

The Centre is close to other forms of public transport, including Waterloo, Southwark and London Bridge Stations local bus routes.

Access info (from the centre's website):

Our counter has a lower level for those in wheelchairs to access.

Unfortunately, we regret that the site does not have an accessible toilet. We have now secured a grant to rebuild our toilet so it’s accessible. We’ll share updates when this work has started and when it’s finished.

Neighbouring Blackfriars Station, Starbucks and the Founders Arms all have disabled access toilets available to our visitors. We provide an escorting service for our guests in wheelchairs to access these toilets – both of which are less than a two-minute journey away.
