How do I nominate myself?

  • If you're standing for a committee position in your student group and you aren't already a member, or your membership has lapsed, then buy a standard membership to the student group you’d like to nominate yourself for, then head over to our Elections page to begin your nomination.
  • To stand for one of our Officer positions, you can also do this via our Elections page.
  • Once you are logged in, all positions that you are eligible for will pop up. The deadline for buying membership is 10am on 10 April 2026. You need to buy a membership for all student groups you intend to stand for.

How do I write a manifesto?

  • Our manifesto guide helps you craft a manifesto that really connects with students. It walks you through getting to know your audience, finding out what matters most to different groups, and choosing a few key promises you genuinely care about.

Am I eligible for all roles I have a membership for?

  • You can look at the role descriptions for each student group to see if you are eligible to stand. Some may have requirements such as being a member for a year or being part of the committee already.

I can’t nominate myself, why is that?

  • You need to be a current student and have a membership to each student group that you’d like to run for. Please note that even if you are a committee member, you need to have bought a membership before the cut-off date of 10am on 26 January 2026.
  • You can check whether you have a membership here.
  • If you have a membership to a group but still can’t nominate yourself, please email elections@kclsu.org with your k-number, receipt, and date of purchase.

I’m on a year abroad, can I nominate myself?

  • Yes! All current students can nominate themselves.

Can I stand if I’m going on a year abroad next year?

  • Yes. You can stand if you are going on a year abroad. However, please think about time management and whether you are able to fulfil a committee position while you are away.

Can I stand if I’m going on placement?

  • Yes. You can stand if you are going on placement. However, please think about time management and whether you can fulfil a committee position while on placement.

I’m a dormant student, can I nominate myself?

  • As long as KCL classifies you as a current student, you will be able to nominate yourself. If in doubt, please reach out to elections@kclsu.org.

I would like to withdraw from my position.

  • You can withdraw yourself during the election period. The deadline to withdraw yourself is Sunday 8 March 2026.

Is there a limit to how many roles I can stand for?

  • Yes. You can stand for a maxmum of five positions. This includes a maximum of one Student Trustee or Full-Time Officer role, and a maximum of one student group President position for student group elections. This means you can stand for:
    • 1 x Full-Time Officer position, 1 x Student Group/Academic Association President position, 3 x other Student Group positions (e.g. Social Secretary, Events Officer, etc.)
    • 1 x Full-Time Officer position, 4 x other Student Group roles
    • 1 x Student Group President position, 4 x other Student Group roles
    • 5 x non-President student group roles

What happens if I am elected to multiple roles within the same committee?

  • According to bylaws 9.7 and 8.5, you can only hold one position per student group or Academic Sssociation. This means that when we are running the counts, you will be withdrawn from the other roles you nominated yourself for within the same group once you have been elected to a position for that same group.
  • We will run the count in the following order:
    • President
    • Treasurer
    • Afterwards, the group submitted the roles in whichever order on their spreadsheet.
  • If you already know you are the only candidate for a role that does not have your preference, you can withdraw. The deadline to withdraw yourself is Sunday 8 March 2026. After that, the count will be run.

If there is one position available and one candidate, do they automatically get voted in?

  • No. Candidates need at least one vote to be elected. Candidates can vote for themselves. If they receive 0 votes, they won’t be elected.
