Dismantle King's Colonial Legacy

A brick wall with bricks falling away to form a hole in the middle, in the gap are the words Dismantle King's Colonial Legacy.
We are a student-led campaign calling on University management to commit to dismantling the lasting legacy of colonialism and institutional racism at King's.

Our aim is to build a powerful student-led campaign calling on the University to make a clear, public commitment to investigating and understanding its colonial history and its continued influence on current students, staff and institutional policy. We want King’s senior management to commit to tangible actions the institution will take towards reparative justice.

Come along to our campaign launch on 26th October 5-7pm to help us shape our campaign demands and tactics. Book your free tickets here.

Campaign Objectives

  • Engage students in discussions to build a clear definition of what decolonisation means in practice; a shared vision for a decolonised, anti-racist institution; and tangible actions we want to see from the University to get there.
  • Bring together students and staff in collective action, calling on King’s senior management to make a public commitment to investigate and redress the ongoing impact of colonialism and structural racism at King’s.
  • Ultimately, we are seeking for King’s Senior Management to publicly commit to addressing colonialism and structural racism in its strategic vision and to invest significant resources into investigating its own history and setting out tangible steps to improve the current experiences of students and staff of colour. We want to see a clear, centrally resourced commitment to this work, as has been adopted at the University of Glasgow, the University of Manchester, and the University of Cambridge.
