Student Staff Liaison Committee Sub Pathway

Student Staff Liaison/Feedback Meetings

What is a Student-Staff Feedback/Liaison Committee (SSLC)?

SSLCs are semi-regular meetings between staff and student representatives whereby student representatives are able to share the concerns and ideas of their peers.

Why have Student-Staff Liaison Committee?

SSLCs are a great way to gather student sentiment and for students and staff to create a better learning experience together.

How to conduct a Student-Staff Feedback/Liaison Committee

This is one of the most common ways staff go about gathering feedback from students and the general structure is as follows:
    Over teams or in person
  • Organised by the Student Experience Team, led by one staff member and one academic rep – both holding the role as a co- chair. This serves to equalise the power structure between staff and students and encourages more student input.
  • Lasting no longer than 1.5 hours
  • General issues arising are discussed, a majority of the time is dedicated to hearing from reps and understanding their concerns, criticisms, ideas and commendations. Academic reps are able to understand what the staff members can and cannot change or improve, and can take this information back to their fellow students. However, staff should be active in closing the feedback loop by sharing any decisions made resulting from rep feedback to reps and the wider student body.
