WIT- Well-being, Inclusivity, Transparency: Vote Haneen for VP Welfare & Community!

Hello King’s family! My name is Haneen Farid, I'm in my third year as a Politics student, and I am running for Vice President Welfare and Community

I am running for this position to enhance the wellbeing of the King's student community, leveraging the experience I have gained at KCLSU over the past three years

  • I have served as President of KCL Indo Pak Development Forum and events officer of KCL Politics society (2022-23).

  • I have collaborated with 15 societies, organising events that involved 200+ students, enhancing the sense of community on campus.

  • I am a trained well-being lead, having conducted multiple well-being events, positively impacting 100+ KCL students.

These are my main goals to achieve:

  1. Mental Health Support

  • Mental Wellbeing For BAME & Overseas Students- I aim to launch mental health campaigns for BAME and overseas students, collaborating with cultural groups and experts for open discussions, resources, and culturally sensitive support.

  • Multilingual Mental Health Support- I will liaise with the KCLSU Wellbeing team to advocate for multilingual mental health support services to ensure every student, regardless of their primary language, can access the assistance they need.

  • MCF Mental Health Evidence Extension- I will enhance the MCF system by extending mental health evidence validity from three months to six months, offering increased support and reducing the evidence burden for students with chronic mental health concerns or overseas students.

  1. Inclusivity

  • Subsidised On-Campus Meals- We're all feeling the pinch of the cost of living, right? I mean, £5.70 for a meal deal at the shack? So here's the deal (pun intended): I am dedicated to working with King’s food to subsidise on-campus meal prices for affordable options, prioritising student well-being.

  • Elevating Campus Dining- I will collaborate with King's Food to upgrade the dining experience with a diverse menu featuring new and rotating options. I will establish a robust feedback system, ensuring continuous improvement and heightened meal quality, eliminating monotony. Bonus: I'll even save you that walk to Gregg's or Tesco during lunch hours.

  • Affordable Student Housing- Demand for rooms under the King’s Accommodation Allocation Scheme (KAAS) is skyrocketing faster than a caffeine-fueled student during exam season! I will liaise with King’s Estates to increase the rooms allocated under KAAS and extend it to more King's Residences for a wider range of options.

  • Inclusivity In Fitness- Overlooking female-friendly gym options on King’s campuses unintentionally hinders female students with cultural, religious, or personal considerations. Hence, I propose dedicating a few hours over the course of a week as ‘female-only’ at the King’s gyms - because fitness should be inclusive, not exclusive!

  1. Transparency

  • Enhancing accountability at KCLSU- I will push to enhance accountability and transparency in KCLSU's leadership by increasing students’ accessibility to  organisational information and fostering regular communication. This includes not just event updates but also sharing insights into the Union's inner workings, enhancing the sense of trust amongst students.

  • Reforming King’s Residence Portal- The current King's residence portal creates frustration by releasing room availability without notice. For a smoother residence hunt, I will collaborate with King’s estates to identify and resolve the miscommunication, ensuring advance information on room availability. Let's keep it transparent and make accommodation hunting at King’s Residences a breeze!

  1. Increasing Campus Study Spaces

  • Between finding space to study in the shack's symphony of distractions and the on-campus study rooms feeling like the peak hour- Jubilee line– let's face it, the struggle is real. Hence, I will push for more indoor study spaces across different campuses, providing every student with focused and productive environments.
