Julia for a SECOND term of office - With EXPERIENCE I'll do it AGAIN, but BETTER

Hi I'm Julia,

I'm in my 4th year of the MSci in Neuroscience. I'm really passionate about brains and student politics! I've been elected as a Sabbatical Officer in 2022/23 and after that I came back to studying to finish my degree, however, I loved being an Officer and I always wanted to get a chance to work towards a better academic experience at King's again.

Whilst things have massively improved since the outbreak of COVID-19 there are now other pressing issues and new challenges to overcome. I know that now, after over a year at KCLSU, I'm really well equipped to assume my role quickly and smoothly, to start launching campaigns, and to work with the key stakeholders at the SU and the university to improve the experience at King's for you.

As a Sabbatical Officer in 2022/23 I did the following:

  • Led the Teaching Excellence Framework project from the student representation side where we highlighted the key areas that need improvement at King's with regards to the students' experience and future outcomes
  • Worked closely with the university executive team to ensure that students get financial support to ease the cost-of-living challenges
  • Used key spaces shared with the most influential stakeholders from the university (i.e. the Academic Board and the College Education Committee) to campaign for a better quality contact between students and personal tutors and mitigation system for assessments (MCFs) among others

If elected I will achieve the following:

  • Continue to work on previous projects to ensure that what we've achieved won't be lost, and to built upon the already existing resources and achievements
  • Campaign for provisions to be made to support students struggling with the cost of living in London which will include lobbying for financial support as well as other forms of support such as advising sessions and useful resources
  • Arrange time and space for regular meetings with the student body to hear about your experience on a day-to-day basis, to ensure that all of you have easy access to your representatives, and to create a real dialog between you and your Officers
  • Share my knowledge and experience related to student politics and useful advice on how to navigate the complicated system of the university and the SU because I'm certain that all of you deserve transparency from the SU and the university and that the knowledge I will share will enable you to get involved and shape your own experience at King's

The take-away message

What I'd love you to remember and consider while casting your vote is EXPERIENCE.

I've spent 13 months as a Sabbatical Officer at KCLSU, I developed relationships with various key stakeholders from the university, I know how to organize myself at work, and I've learnt how to avoid mistakes that one struggles to avoid the first time round.

I know what our student body could benefit from and how to empower you to continue to make changes during my term of office if I'm elected, and when I am no longer there.

I spent my first term of office LEARNING, now let me put that knowledge into ACHIEVING.
