Vote for Reformation, where silence is broken, and the system's flaws are openly spoken!

Hello!

My name is Hassan and I’m running to be your President. I am currently serving as the Vice President of Welfare & Community and my extensive involvement in student affairs and politics has underscored the imperative for internal change. After facing push-back for representing the student voice, I believe it is vital to reform King’s College London Students Union into an organization truly representative of and responsive to student needs. Through my tenure at King’s, I've firsthand observed the hurdles confronting students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds. With your backing, I aim to address these issues head-on, fostering inclusivity and embracing diversity across the board.

I’m studying Digital Culture and I’m actively involved in different volunteering societies, public speaking, and as you can probably tell from the picture (I love eating Oreos).

Reforming KCLSU & Student Representation:

  • Adjust the By-Laws to empower student representatives from various sectors of King’s, redistributing decision-making authority away from KCLSU senior staff towards a more inclusive student body.

  • Enhanced Financial Support for Student Activities: Rebalance KCLSU’s budget to provide increased funding for student clubs and sports societies, fostering a more vibrant and engaging campus environment.

  • Introduce regular accountability assemblies to promote transparency and openness within KCLSU, ensuring that student concerns are heard and acted upon promptly.

Forming a Democratic Council:

  • Establish a democratic student council with the mandate to vote on KCLSU’s stance on various political and humanitarian issues, especially that of Israel-Palestine to foster a culture of inclusivity and representation.

  • Advocate for the responsible divestment of university funds from entities engaged in the global arms trade and supporting genocide, aligning investment practices with ethical principles.

  • Overhaul reporting and support mechanisms to improve the university’s response to cases of discrimination, with a particular focus on combating anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

KCLSU Charity Merchandise

  • Introducing charity merchandise at the Union Shop to raise awareness about different health, social and humanitarian causes around the world.

  • This purpose-driven merchandise at the Union Shop would not just be a symbol of solidarity but a tangible donation or contribution to global causes.

  • These items would also be conversation starters, sparking discussions about the issues at hand and encouraging others to join the movement for positive change

KCL Residences:

  • Expanded Affordable Housing Options: Lobby for an expansion of the King’s Affordable Accommodation Scheme (KAAS) to accommodate at least 1400 students, ensuring more students have access to affordable housing.

  • Streamlined Booking Process: Enhance the room booking system to better cater to the needs of 2nd and 3rd year students, simplifying the process and improving accessibility.

Enhancements for Disability Support:

  • Improved Accessibility Services: Enhance support services for disabled students to ensure they receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically and socially.

  • Establishment of a Disability Students Fund: Create a dedicated fund to assist both international and domestic students in acquiring essential equipment such as wheelchairs and assistive technologies, promoting inclusivity and accessibility throughout the university

 Q & A Sessions

  • In order to reduce the communication gap between the KCLSU and the Student Body, I will host weekly Q&A sessions where the students can voice their concerns and suggestions as to how the Student Union can be better at facilitating and supporting them.

 KCL Yearbook

  • In order to recap the academic year, I will create a recollection of all your precious memories and time at King’s through the YearBook.

  • I will work on organizing a proper farewell for the graduating students so they receive a proper well deserved send-off for choosing to study at King’s.
