BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL. BLACK IS EXCELLENT.

The ACS is a symbol of unity and a vessel for belonging in a society that refuses to recognise black excellence and experiences. From an early age, we are conditioned to not take up space and are confined by the lies of the white man's society. Every day we stray from their expectations and redefine what it means to be young black and successful in this country. Our experiences, talents and ambitions are invaluable and deserve the limelight. We are multi-faceted individuals with a rich and diverse heritage. I am running for Vice-president to manifest my passion for our community and make space for the next generation of leaders to grow and thrive; to elevate black excellence.

As a Head student in sixth form, I have experience in leadership and am accustomed to the process of projects; from their conception to their completion. From founding and managing my school's Diversity & Inclusivity committee I have experience communicating with heads of departments, staying on top of correspondence and surveying students effectively. This role required me to effectively manage 6 subgroups and delegate to achieve our goals. My experience in communicating and creating liaisons with other schools and institutions will enable me to reinforce our relationships with other unis, even beyond UOL.  The skills I have acquired make me suitable for the role and would enable me to see my plans to fruition.

COMMUNITY  -  Our positioning in a majority non-black institution gives us a prime opportunity to foster a real sense of community and I will achieve this by having regular socials and chill zones to enable more a more social environment.

INTEGRATION  -  Despite being a small number there is vast diversity and I aim to integrate marginalised groups by collaborating with other societies such as ISOC and providing more events that are accessible to these groups and serve them in the best way possible.

ESTABLISH  -  As it stands, the ACS has immense potential to be the first point of call for its students. All over the country, ACS is known primarily for its motives, but I feel that KCLACS can lead by centralising other services centred specifically to deal with the needs of black students; from mental health to careers or business help.

CONNECT  -  I plan to connect more with other unis and increase our sphere of influence past UOL.

ELEVATE  -  My main aim is to elevate our community through the promotion of small businesses, charity events and education on pressing issues that affect our community.

I aspire to make the ACS more of a community and a space that gives people the time and platform to have their voices heard, creating the optimum environment for personal development that encompasses all areas of blackness.
