"Embracing Our Differences, Strengthening Our Unity"

As the Caribbean/ Inclusion Officer, my primary goal is to ensure that the ACS is a welcoming and inclusive space for all members regardless of their background. I believe that inclusion should be at the forefront of everything we do and that means actively seeking out and accommodating the needs of all minority groups within OUR minority group.

As a person of Caribbean heritage, it has sometimes felt that the Caribbean aspect within the ACS itself is often overlooked which often makes many of us feel excluded. It is essential that we celebrate the rich culture and heritage of this region and merge it with the beauty and culture of our African heritage. This will involve organising events and activities that showcase the diversity of the Caribbean cultures including food, music and art. I will make it my priority to focus on the Caribbean diaspora within ACS.

In addition to celebrating the Caribbean diaspora, I am committed to ensuring that our Muslim community feel welcomed and valued within the ACS. This will involve creating opportunities for us to participate in events and activities that celebrate Islamic festivals/traditions. The ACS should be a space that strengthens the brotherhood and sisterhood between our Muslims just as how it strengthens the brother and sisterhood between Christians. Everyone within our society should have the opportunity to learn more about Islam. I want to create a more open-minded society. With Islam being the fastest-growing religion globally, it is important that we acknowledge and honour the diversity within our community and that includes recognising the unique experiences of the Muslims within our society.

Another group that I am passionate about supporting is the black queer community. Black queer men and women are often marginalised within the black community, within the queer society and in general society. Our ACS should act as a safe space. We need to be more open and discuss LGBTQ issues to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with the queer community. An important part of my role will be providing resources and support for those who may be struggling with issues related to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

I am committed to going the extra mile to fight for the inclusion of each group within the ACS. I can bring a sense of sensitivity, empathy, and a willingness to listen to the needs and concerns of all members. I am committed to working closely with other members of the ACS team to ensure that we are creating a space that feels inclusive and at home for everyone.

Together we can build a community that celebrates diversity and supports all members regardless of their background or identity. A heart filled with compassion and love for our fellow human beings is the greatest gift we can give to the world.
