‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’

Hello!

My name is Hassan and I’m running to be your Vice President (Welfare and Community). I’m in my 2nd Year studying Digital Culture and I’m actively involved in different volunteering societies, public speaking, and as you can probably tell from the picture (I love eating Oreos). During my time at King’s, I have witnessed the challenges and problems we as students face, especially those from under-represented communities. With your support I can help tackle these problems to promote inclusivity and diversity for all.

Financial Support

Strike-Action Refund

  • I will advocate for a full refund for the teaching disrupted by strikes, especially for International Students who pay significantly higher tuition fees.

  • While some students received a partial refund in the previous years, I will ensure that everyone is made aware of the refund process (through KCL’s newsletter and social media) and can benefit equally.

Hardship Fund

  • Due to the rising Cost of Living Crisis, it is getting incredibly hard for both local and international students to attend university. I will petition the board to host more fundraising events and attract sponsorships from different profit and non-profit corporations to increase the value of the Hardship fund to extend financial support, especially to BAME and Refugee Students.

 Inter-Faith Awareness Module

  • King’s has one of the most diverse student bodies across the UK, yet not a lot of students know enough about other religions or cultures to promote interfaith dialogue and create an equitable and open learning environment

  • In collaboration with different societies, I aspire to create a module which helps students access information about some of the major religions in the world and learn more about them.

  • Hosting more Interfaith events at King’s throughout the year.

 Academic Inclusivity

  • As a key member of the KCL Decolonising Working Group, I understand the importance of academic inclusivity and a curriculum which caters to students of all backgrounds and identities. Therefore, I plan on introducing policies and staff training which call upon all departments to diversify the course content i.e. lectures, seminars, and readings to ensure that the academia is not just limited to the typical white male perspective.

  • I will advise different departments to work in collaborative environments with academic representatives, and change the multiple same-day deadlines system which overburden the students.

  • I will devise strategies which connect students with staff members of  similar backgrounds to help them adapt to a new learning environment and prevent them from being disadvantaged.

Mental Health & Safety

  • The wait times for the King’s Mental Health Services are over two months and this needs to change. As a Vice President, I will advocate for more funding to the Board to increase Mental Health Staff and Resources.

  • Conducting Seminars/Workshops with different societies to ensure that students from underrepresented backgrounds feel safe in context to the UK Government’s Prevent Policy.

  • Expanding the KCLSU x Stop the Music Campaign by creating awareness about Student Safety Zones, and conducting more staff training regarding anti-spiking preventive measures.

Q & A Sessions

  • In order to reduce the communication gap between the KCLSU and the Student Body, I will host weekly Q&A sessions where the students can voice their concerns and suggestions as to how the Student Union can be better at facilitating and supporting them.

 KCL Yearbook

  • In order to recap the academic year, I will create a recollection of all your precious memories and time at King’s through the YearBook.

  • I will work on organizing a proper farewell for the graduating students so they receive a proper well deserved send-off for choosing to study at King’s.

Experience:

From being a recipient of the Principal’s Global Leadership Award, being on the Committee for King’s Investment Society to being Lead on the KCL on the Streets (a society which caters to the homeless people around Strand), I have been a part of the King’s Community in many ways and see it is as my responsibility to give back to this community by promoting a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.
