As a dedicated student and active member of the King's community, I am passionate about making a difference and improving the lives of our students. If elected, I will prioritise student welfare, increase postgraduate representation, enhance the student experience, encourage diversity and inclusion, foster academic excellence, collaborate with stakeholders, and be transparent and accountable.
If elected, I will aim on achieving the following:
1. Improving Postgraduate Student Experience
- Work with the university administration to increase funding for postgraduate students and improve facilities, such as study spaces and research resources.
- Organize events and initiatives that cater specifically to postgraduate students, such as networking events, social activities, and academic workshops.
- Establish a mentorship program that pairs postgraduate students with faculty members or alumni who can provide guidance and support.
- Advocate for policies that address issues affecting postgraduate students such as workload, mental health, and funding.
2. Introducing a Self-Certified Mitigating Circumstances Policy
- Every student at King’s deserves equal opportunities to succeed academically, regardless of any unforeseen challenges they may face.
- Actively lobby the university to introduce a self-certified mitigating circumstances policy, allowing students to apply for a special consideration at least once a year.
- This policy will help to ensure that students are not unfairly disadvantaged by circumstances outside of their control, and will promote a fair and just academic environment for all.
3. Increasing Postgraduate Representation
- Create more opportunities for postgraduate students to be represented and have a voice within the student body, such as through dedicated forums or events.
- Work with KCLSU to ensure that postgraduate students are included in decision-making processes and committees.
- Increase postgraduate student involvement in KCLSU activities, such as by encouraging participation in student societies and clubs.
- Promote the importance of postgraduate research and contributions to the academic community through social media and other communication channels.
4. Enhancing Postgraduate Employability
- Create initiatives that support postgraduate students' career development, such as workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events with employers and alumni.
- Work with the university to increase opportunities for postgraduate students to gain practical experience in their fields of study, such as through internships or research projects.
- Create a centralized platform for postgraduate students to access job postings, career advice, and other resources.
- Advocate for policies that encourage employers to recognise the value of postgraduate education and provide opportunities for postgraduate students in their hiring processes.
5. Supporting International Postgraduate Students
- Create initiatives that support international postgraduate students' integration into the KCL community, such as social events and mentorship programs
- Advocate for policies that address issues affecting international postgraduate students, such as visa and immigration policies, language support, and cultural adjustment
- Establish partnerships with organizations that support international students to provide additional resources and opportunities.
By achieving these aims, postgraduate students will experience a positive impact as it will alleviate the burden that many of us face, leading to a thriving postgraduate community.
