Group of the Month – KCL Islamic Society (ISOC)

The KCL Islamic Society (ISOC) has demonstrated outstanding commitment, coordination, and impact, supporting a community of over 1,000 students while extending its work far beyond campus.
One of ISOC’s key initiatives, the Sadaqah Team, raised over £40,000 for charity throughout October and November through a wide range of initiatives, making a significant difference to those who need it most. Alongside this, the Qur’an Programme delivered weekly circles throughout November, engaging hundreds of students in impactful sessions exploring the Qur’an and its meaning.
ISOC also meticulously organised weekly Jummah prayers across all three King’s campuses, an impressive logistical achievement delivered by a very small and dedicated team.
A central part of ISOC’s work is the ARK Project, founded in 2012 to serve both the King’s community and wider society. In November alone, ARK:
- Ran weekly soup kitchens every Friday, drawing dozens of volunteers, many for the first time
- Delivered biweekly homeless outreach initiatives, walking from Strand Campus to Tottenham Court Road to distribute food, supported by donations from The Shack
- Collected toys for children during Hospice Day at Noah’s ARK
- Launched a Winter Clothes Drive, including a promotional video filmed with Dr Sam Thenabadu of the GKT Faculty
- Hosted the annual Mock MMI, welcoming 150 widening participation students to Strand Campus for invaluable interview practice after months of planning
From tackling homelessness to widening participation outreach and building meaningful community connections, ISOC has shown exceptional dedication and leadership.
Congratulations to KCL Islamic Society on winning Group of the Month!
Project of the Month – KCL Amateur Boxing - Boxathon for Mary’s Meals

This month’s Project of the Month goes to KCL Amateur Boxing for their incredible 18-hour fundraising boxathon in support of Mary’s Meals.
The committee kept the boxing gym open from 6am until midnight, transforming it into a vibrant space filled with students, King’s staff, and members of the wider community. Throughout the day, people dropped in to train, support one another, and contribute to a shared goal.
The event raised an impressive £3,800 (and counting) for Mary’s Meals, a charity that provides life-changing school meals to children in some of the world’s poorest communities. With just £19.15 able to feed a child for an entire school year, the funds raised will support around 200 children with daily meals and access to education.
A full programme of training ran throughout the day, including coaching, pad work, one-to-one sessions, and drop-in opportunities. Volunteers were supported by an outstanding group of coaches, including the current National Amateur Champion and a boxer who represented Somalia at the World Championships, alongside committee members who guided beginners through the fundamentals of boxing.
Despite the endurance required to run the event, volunteers described the experience as uplifting and rewarding, with strangers cheering each other on and experienced boxers supporting first-timers.
Congratulations to KCL Amateur Boxing on winning Project of the Month!
