May 5th is an important date for us at KCLSU, as we come together to partake in African World Heritage Day! This UNESCO celebration pays homage to the importance of African culture and history, and encourages the whole world to recognize the crucial role that African heritage plays not only for the continent, but for the whole world.
UNESCO has established this particular celebration specifically for Africans to reclaim their heritage. If you are not African, you are still welcome to take part, and you are invited to educate yourself on African heritage and legacies, and how many of these important sites are currently in danger because of the climate crisis.
London is a great place to immerse yourself in African culture, specifically in the month of May, where many local and global initiatives take centre stage in the British capital to host and celebrate all the African residents in the City.
