Overview

KCL Student Action for Refugees (KCL STAR) are delighted to invite you to attend our symposium, ‘The Journey After the Journey: The UK Asylum Process’. A day-long event held at Bush House, King’s College London, featuring lectures and workshops, exploring the different areas of the asylum process which asylum seekers must go through to obtain refugee status. These will include lectures on housing, economic support from the home office, schooling and other basic needs, as well as lectures on the interview and legal process and the issues which surround them, and the contentious issue of immigration detention. Workshops after lunch will be led by grassroots organisations, research groups and asylum seekers.

Some of our amazing speakers include: Maurice Wren, Chief Executive of Refugee Council; Ahmad al-Rashid, former asylum seeker and IMO researcher; Marta Welander, founder and Executive Director of Refugee Rights Europe; Michael Collins of These Walls Must Fall Campaign, and many other amazing practitioners.

This conference is not limited to legal practitioners or academics, but we are opening it to students, researchers, organisations and anyone who is interested in immigration and refugee rights. We wish to attract interest from as many people from a wide range of backgrounds, which is why our workshops explore a variety of fields that may be of interest to different people. Most importantly, we do not wish to drown out migrant voices, in fact we believe that using migrant stories should be centre of our conference.
