GKT Men’s Rugby Club (Guy’s, King's & St Thomas’ Men’s Rugby Football Club) the Oldest Rugby Club in the World (Est.1843) has been proudly and strongly represented by students from KCL since its formation, with the club evolving to be represented by students studying ALL types of degrees at King’s.
We cater for players of all abilities, from beginners to academy players; whichever level you are there’s a team for you.
Our teams play in the BUCS South Eastern leagues and also participate in other domestic cup competitions: the BUCS Cup and the UH Cup (The oldest rugby cup competition in the world)
We also have a Saturday side playing in the Kent Men’s League so all players are guaranteed match experience throughout the season.
There are more opportunities for elite players, looking to challenge themselves further, to represent the club playing for United Hospitals - an invitational outfit made up of the best players from London's medical schools, playing fixtures throughout the year against the likes of Army U23s, Cardiff Medicals, Welsh Academics, Oxford, and Cambridge amongst others.
We hold regular training sessions led by a full-time dedicated coach every Monday from 6:30-8pm starting mid-September at our home grounds: Brockley Rise, Honor Oak Park, London, SE23 1NW with the opportunity for tailored gym programmes/session and one-on-one feedback for those looking for a little bit more.
The benefits of joining:
- We currently have a 1st XV and 2nd XV that play on Wednesdays AND Saturdays to increase opportunities for participation.
- Home ground and training located at Honor Oak Park, only a 15-minute train journey from University campuses - the most central home ground of any of the London universities.
- Players receive free and discounted Kit/Stash from our Club Shop as well as fresher's receiving playing shorts and socks included in membership fees.
- We offer two £1,000 and two £500 scholarships each year for stand-out players, both on and off the pitch. £1000 of this is dedicated solely to Freshers. These scholarships are funded by alumnae and are unique to our club.
- We play in the United Hospitals cup, the oldest rugby cup competition in the world, against all other London Medical Schools. Last year both our 1st and 2nd XV reached the finals.
- Players will have the chance to represent GKTMRFC against KCL in both the Macadam Cup and PAC Challenge Cup (for the 1st XV and 2nd XV respectively). We have held the PAC Challenge Cup since it's introduction, and held the Macadam cup most recently from 2019-22. We play in the parallel league to KCL Men's Rugby Club and it is always a tight competition between us and our rivals across the Thames.
