Details

The Policy & Research Assistant will work within the Community Engagement department and the Student Voice team to assist the Policy & Research Coordinator on key projects they are currently working on. This includes the delivery of the Insights Strategy, Union Agenda, National Union of Students activities, and Make a Change Newsletter. They will also assist on a range of administrative tasks, including monitoring the team's inboxes and responding to enquiries, and ensuring information is up-to-date on the KCLSU website.

The postholder will:

  • Monitor the relevant department inboxes and respond to enquiries in a polite, timely and professional manner or forwarding to relevant staff member
  • Provide support for projects running across the community engagement department as needed
  • Provide calendar, email and general administration support for the Student Voice team Assist on the delivery of a policy newsletter updating relevant students on emerging higher education policy and how to get involved
  • Assist on the delivery of the KCLSU student voice activities
  • Assist with ad-hoc research and analysis
  • Assist with obtaining and storing meeting minutes from Student-Staff Liaison Committees across faculties
  • Assist on administrative tasks relating to the Insights Strategy Assist on administrative tasks relating to Representatives such as inputting, collating and maintaining accurate records
  • Provide administrative and any other relevant support to assist with the delivery of with projects undertaken by members of the community representation team including but not limited to minute taking, data monitoring, support with event organising, updating website pages and other relevant administrative tasks.

A successful candidate will:

Knowledge

  • Ability to use the internet and Microsoft Office; particularly Excel, Word and Outlook Good standard of English (both written and verbal)
  • Basic understanding of representation at KCLSU (desirable)
  • Experience
  • Experience of working with people via email, telephone and face to face
  • Experience of administrative work (desirable)
  • Experience working as part of a busy team

Skills

  • Organised and methodical with good administration skills
  • Ability to manage working time effectively, and prioritise appropriately
  • Confidence to ask for help when necessary
  • Good verbal and written communication skills Independent and self-reliant, being able to work without close supervision
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workload
  • Reports and analysis skills, acquired either through studies or professional career

Aptitude

  • Polite, positive & friendly manner A “can-do” approach
  • Willing to perform other task as part of the KCLSU team Reliable, punctual, flexible with a proactive working style

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this role you must:

  • Be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student of King's College London.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK, and provide proof of this (i.e. a passport/visa) when asked by KCLSU.
  • Have a National Insurance number, or be in the process of applying for one.
  • Not be a trustee of King’s College London Students’ Union. Trustees should not apply for a role whilst in their term of office, or should their application be accepted or progressed to the interview stage.
  • Ex-Trustees can apply for student staff (non-administrative) roles, as soon as they finish their tenure.
  • Ex-Trustees can apply for career staff / permanent staff roles, only after a year has passed of them being a trustee. Applications submitted within the year should not be accepted or progressed to the interview stage.
