Overview

National Student Money Week is an annual campaign where universities work together to bring free money advice to students across the UK.
2020 was a year full of surprises. An unexpected pandemic put a hard stop to the global economy, affecting us all. Being financially ready for anything had become an important focus for many. This year, the theme is ‘Expect the unexpected: Financial planning for a rainy day’. Because where you are prepared, you can withstand any financial weather conditions that life throws at you.
After a vote from the King’s student body, we have finalised specific themes for each day of the campaign:
• Monday 22nd - Surviving Scams - What is it, how students are being effected especially in relation to COVID-19, how to prepare yourself, where to get help
• Tuesday 23rd - Mental Health - How money can effect mental health, tips around wellbeing and financial health, where to get help
• Wednesday 24th - Housing Emergencies - Renting in private sector, student halls, issues faced during COVID-19 and how to deal with them, where to seek help.
• Thursday 25th - Emergency Funds - Are you Unprepared? - What is it? Why you need it? How to start one? What if there's unexpected payments and no emergency funds? Where to get help
• Friday 26th - Making money from home during COVID-19 (side hustle) - Tips, tricks, resources, contingency plans, where to look for jobs, where to get help to prepare you to be the best candidate for a job (application/interview skills)
We have lots of tips, tricks, recourses, testimonials and much more around each of these themes via our social media platforms. And just to take it a step further we will be holding live Podcasts on Instagram with our very own Money Mentors and Positive Peers from KCLSU discussing these themes. We would highly encourage you to join us and have your say!
