Foreword
We are proud to present this manifesto on behalf of Hannah Lu Chen, a campaign built on practical reform, cultural confidence and delivery that reflects the true scale and diversity of King’s College London. At a university of 44,357 students from 160 countries, the second largest in London, with nine faculties, six campuses and more than 250,000 alumni worldwide, KCLSU must reflect the Student Voice to KCL, not the other way round. This manifesto focuses first on everyday academic experience and student wellbeing: no 9am lectures, protected lunch hours and rationalised timetabling; dedicated silent revision rooms during exam season; fixed workspaces for PhD students; inter campus shuttle buses to improve accessibility; full follow up and implementation of electronic degree certificates; strengthened alumni benefits including alumni email access and digital certification; free female hygiene products in all toilets across all campuses; and advocacy for more student friendly visa policies. Alongside these structural improvements, Hannah will push for formal recognition of “Chinese New Year” over “Lunar New Year” and no classes on Chinese New Year’s Eve, ensuring cultural inclusion within a truly global university. King’s is internationally respected, triple accredited in Business, Europe’s largest educator of health students, and sees 89.03 percent of graduates enter highly skilled employment. Our Students’ Union must match that ambition with professionalism, accountability and measurable progress. This is not a manifesto of slogans but of implementation. We are proud to present a vision that is inclusive, strategic and unapologetically results driven. Vote for a Union that speaks for students first. Vote for Hannah Lu Chen.
Yiming Liu – Chair of Hannah Lu Chen’s Campaign Committee

1 Our Pledge to the Student Union
Student Assembly
We will uphold the legacy of those before us by continuing the push for a Student Assembly, a body composed of student representatives and society presidents, to ensure that the collective voice of students is heard clearly by KCLSU, its Board of Trustees, and university governors. We recognise and especially commend Baiyu Liu, who has done an outstanding job over the past year in advancing initiatives that have genuinely benefited students. Building on this progress, we will continue to strengthen student representation and ensure that momentum is not lost. Under our leadership, we will have an administration that advocates to KCLSU on behalf of students, explaining why our demands matter and must be acted upon, rather than one that tells students why change is supposedly impossible.
Lay Trustees
Currently, 28% of the decisive voting power on our Board of Trustees sits with Lay Trustees, individuals who are neither elected by students nor directly accountable to them, rather than with Student Officers and Student Trustees. These Lay Trustees are appointed through processes that lack transparency and democratic legitimacy, often recruited via platforms like LinkedIn by officials who themselves are not elected by the student body. This structure undermines the very principles of student representation and accountability. A system that sidelines elected student voices in favour of unelected appointees cannot truly claim to reflect student democracy.
President’s Suggestion Box
Direct communication with the President and Vice President (the officer teams) via email, messages, or face-to-face meetings. We are here to serve you! You can share any issues or concerns you’ve recently encountered so we can address them promptly. You can also book a time to speak with us in person to explain any difficulties or challenges you’re facing. My goal is simple: to listen, understand, and act on student needs. Your voice matters, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
President Coffee Mornings
We will host monthly coffee mornings, either online or in-person, giving you the chance to chat over a cup of coffee and share your thoughts. These informal sessions are designed so that I can hear directly from students, understand the challenges you’re facing, and discuss any issues in a relaxed and open environment. Your voice matters, and these coffee mornings are an opportunity for you to let us know what’s working, what’s not, and how we can support you better.
Presidential Updates
As President, I will aim to publish monthly updates on our work and feedback through Newsletter, Instagram, TikTok, Chinese social media platforms to keep everyone informed of what we have done and what our goals are.
Rework MCF System
The current Mitigating Circumstances Form (MCF) system is too rigid and insufficiently responsive to students facing genuine, extraordinary challenges. We will push for a more compassionate and flexible approach, one that properly recognises exceptional situations rather than dismissing them through narrow criteria. When an MCF application is rejected, students should not be left without recourse. We will introduce a formal appeals pathway through the Student Union to ensure decisions can be independently reviewed. To strengthen fairness and transparency, we will establish a student jury composed of elected academic representatives to peer-review cases during the appeals process. Students deserve a voice in decisions that directly affect their academic futures. This is about accountability, transparency, and justice in academic governance.
King’s Kitchen
Choice, not restriction, that is our principle. We will end blanket initiatives like “Meatless Monday” and “Veganuary” by restoring ethically sourced meat options across King’s kitchens, while simultaneously investing in better, more diverse vegan and vegetarian offerings. Students deserve real choice, not one-size-fits-all policies. King’s Kitchen must work around students, not the other way around. Opening at 11am instead of 12pm will better support those with packed timetables, labs, placements, and back-to-back lectures. We will proudly champion small British farmers and prioritise locally grown produce. It makes no sense to ship food across continents when it can be sourced sustainably at home. Supporting local agriculture means supporting quality, sustainability, and our communities. To hold standards high, we will establish a student-led Food Quality and Hygiene Committee to oversee KCL restaurants, ensuring food safety, quality, and authenticity across all international cuisines. And yes! We are clear: We will bring back the meat.
Merch Shop
KCLSU merchandise should be affordable, accessible, and properly stocked. Right now, it is not. We will relocate production of KCLSU merchandise (hoodies, tote bags, and more) to major manufacturing hubs, where higher production capacity and textile expertise can significantly reduce costs while maintaining and even improving quality. Lower manufacturing costs mean lower retail prices. £60 for a hoodie is simply unreasonable. We will ensure that KCLSU merchandise, such as hoodies, tote bags, and more, is priced reasonably, taking inspiration from affordable high-street brands rather than premium designer labels. Merchandise should allow students to show pride in their university and not feel priced out of it. Students have already invested in their education, and campus resources should reflect that. We will ensure that students enjoy significantly discounted prices on merchandise, events, and campus facilities — because you’ve paid tuition, and affordability matters. For visitors and external users, a slightly higher price may be applied, reflecting that many are financially independent and not constrained by student budgets. Revenue generated from these additional charges can be reinvested into student welfare, societies, and campus initiatives, creating a positive cycle that benefits the student community. While two-tier pricing is complex and must be implemented thoughtfully, our principle is simple: students come first, accessibility matters, and any additional income should support student-centred projects.
King’s + Your Story
We hope that we make something meaningful to you. You can design your own Kings’ souvenirs. You can also have your own King’s & Partner University Edition. We hope to introduce collaborative merchandise for students with experiences across multiple universities. For example, if a student completed their undergraduate degree at King’s and a master’s at UCL, they could design and purchase a limited-edition item like a hoodie or T-shirt that celebrates both institutions. These customisable, co-branded products allow students to proudly showcase their unique academic journeys and connections, making merchandise more personal, meaningful, and fun. Pride in your university should be creative, inclusive, and reflective of your story. And now, it can be!
Closer Collaboration with the University
We will work to strengthen the partnership between KCLSU and King’s College London, ensuring that student voices are actively involved in university decision-making. KCLSU already participates in important university bodies such as the Academic Board, various faculty committees, and working groups, where student officers provide feedback on teaching, assessment, and academic policies. Building on these existing collaborations, we will maintain regular dialogue with senior staff and faculty to raise student concerns, influence policies affecting campus life and welfare, and develop initiatives that improve facilities, academic resources, and student support services. Updates from these collaborations will be shared openly with students through newsletters, social media, and meetings so that everyone can see how their voices are making an impact. Furthermore, we will continue to advocate for greater student representation in all university committees, ensuring that decisions reflect the real needs and priorities of the student body. By fostering closer collaboration, we aim to create a university environment where students are genuinely heard, valued, and empowered to shape their education and campus experience.
2 Our Pledge to Campus Safety & Facilities
South West Wing
With the groundbreaking of the South-West Wing (SWW) building and the beginning of work, we will ensure that students are placed at the centre of its design and development. SWW represents the opportunities for students at the heart of London in our Strand campus. Naturally, its ground floor must be retained as a student activity space for activity rooms and debating theatre.
ESports Arena
Our ESports society is the pride and joy of our Students Union, with it having recently been incorporated into British University & College Sports (BUCS). ESports is also a $5 billion industry; it must be sufficiently funded with space and facilities to ensure King’s stay at the cutting edge of the entertainment and sporting industry.
Strengthening Campus Safety
Safety is not optional. It is fundamental. Across all five KCL campuses, we will push for stronger, more visible, and more responsive security measures to ensure every student feels protected whether studying late, attending events, or returning home. The tragic death of a student near Strand Campus in March 2025 is a stark reminder that campus safety is not theoretical, it has real consequences. We owe it to all students to take every possible step to prevent accidents and protect lives.
We will improve security presence and coordination across campuses, ensuring consistent standards rather than uneven protection. Particular attention will be given to high-risk areas such as the Waterloo crossing, where clearer safety signage, awareness reminders, and collaboration with local authorities can help reduce accidents and improve pedestrian safety. Safety also begins with awareness. We will introduce enhanced student safety education sessions, practical safety briefings, and regular safety drills so that students are prepared not panicked in emergency situations. This includes structured fire safety training and evacuation exercises to ensure everyone knows how to respond effectively. A safe campus is not created by chance. It is built through preparation, visibility, accountability, and action. We will make sure safety is not reactive but proactive, because student wellbeing must always come first.
Enhancing Student Safety with SafeZone
Student safety is non-negotiable. We will work to enhance and promote SafeZone, King’s free personal safety app, making it easier and more intuitive for students to check in, share their location, and alert campus security in real time. To reduce app fatigue and make life simpler, we hope to integrate SafeZone with King’s Move, so that students moving into halls, commuting, or attending events can access safety features seamlessly without juggling multiple platforms. By combining these tools, we ensure that safety is accessible, visible, and effortless whether you’re walking across campus at night, moving into halls, or travelling between campuses. Awareness campaigns, tutorials, and incentives will encourage adoption so that every student knows how to stay connected, supported, and protected. At King’s, technology works for students, not the other way around. Safety made simple, security made real.
Fire Safety Training
Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility and being prepared saves lives. We will ensure that all students have access to comprehensive fire safety training, including clear instructions on evacuation procedures, the proper use of fire extinguishers, and how to respond calmly in an emergency. Regular fire drills and practical exercises will be held across all campuses so that students know exactly what to do if an alarm sounds, whether in accommodation, lecture halls, or common areas. Safety is not optional. Understanding and practicing fire safety is a basic right, and we are committed to making sure every student feels confident, prepared, and protected.
Eradicate the Rats on Campus
We will unleash Lenny the KCL Cat to fulfil his true destiny—— becoming the most formidable rat-catcher at Guy’s Campus. Strand Campus will not be left behind. We will introduce a campus cat there as well, tasked with managing any “visitors” crossing over from LSE. Unless, of course, they are wearing the proper Visitor’s badge. On a more serious note, we will strengthen health and wellbeing oversight by appointing inspectors to reduce the risks posed by rodents across campus buildings and student accommodation. Clean, safe spaces are not a luxury; they are a basic expectation. Because student wellbeing should never be undermined by uninvited guests.
Meadow at Strand
We will establish a new Meadow-style study space at Strand Campus — bringing one of our most cherished quiet study environments to even more students. The Meadow has long been valued as a calm, focused space where students can work without distraction. Strand deserves the same standard. Through funding generated by the Student Wellbeing Levy and our “Cut the Waste” initiatives, we will ensure this space is not only created but properly maintained to a high standard. Quiet. Accessible. Well-kept. A study space that works for students and is protected as such.
Venue Use & Wellbeing Levy
Our venues sit in the heart of Central London among the most desirable event spaces in the city. While it is right that companies seek to use them, student interests must always come first. To fund our ambitious agenda for student support, we will introduce a 15% Student Wellbeing Levy on external companies hiring KCL venues when their events do not directly benefit our students. Events such as Career Fairs and initiatives that contribute meaningfully to student welfare and professional development will remain fully exempt. This policy creates a clear incentive: companies can collaborate with our student societies and ensure their events serve students or contribute financially toward student wellbeing. It will also reduce the ongoing frustration faced by societies who struggle to secure venues, only to find them fully booked by external commercial events. Every pound raised through this levy will be reinvested directly into Student Wellbeing services and Society funding. Our spaces. Our students. Our priorities!
Accessible Facilities for Students with Disabilities
No student should face barriers because of their physical or sensory needs. We will push for real improvements to campus accessibility, including reliable lifts, accessible toilets, ramps, and barrier-free pathways in all teaching and social spaces. Accessibility is not optional, it is a right, and we will make sure that every student can move around campus safely and independently.
Assistive Facilities for Neurodiverse and SEN Students
Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and neurodiverse profiles, including ADHD, autism, and dyslexia, deserve the tools and support to thrive. We will advocate for academic adjustments such as Extra Time, assistive technology, tailored exam arrangements, and quiet study zones. Additionally, we will expand mentoring and peer-support programs to ensure that neurodiverse students feel included, supported, and empowered to succeed. University systems should adapt to students — not force students to adapt to rigid systems.
3 Our Pledge to Student Wellbeing & Inclusivity
More Therapy Toy Cats at Libraries
The therapy toy cats in KCL libraries have become a student favourite, bringing comfort, stress relief, and moments of joy during busy study days. Many students love interacting with them and they’ve quickly become a small but meaningful part of campus life. We will introduce more therapy toy cats across library spaces, ensuring that even more students can enjoy these calming companions during revision and exam periods. Because sometimes, a little comfort goes a long way. Purr your way through at King’s.
Mental Health Wellbeing
We are committed to addressing mental health challenges and loneliness across campus. At present, there is a 6–8 week wait for King’s Counselling Service. This delay is unacceptable. We will implement Group Therapy Sessions and expand outreach channels to better support our students.
Exam Season Stress Relief
We will continue to build on and strengthen existing exam season stress relief initiatives, ensuring that support for students during exam periods is continuous, effective, and ever improving. Our commitment is to keep refining these programmes so that every student can manage stress, stay focused, and maintain their wellbeing throughout the busiest weeks of the year.
Supporting PhD & Postgraduate Wellbeing
We recognise that PhD and postgraduate students face unique pressures such as long hours, research uncertainty, tight deadlines, and the challenge of balancing academic, personal, and professional life. We will advocate for tailored mental health support, including access to dedicated counselling, peer-support networks, and wellbeing workshops designed specifically for research students. We will also push for flexible resources and check-ins with supervisors and academic departments, ensuring that students are supported not just academically but emotionally throughout their journey. Your research matters and so does your wellbeing. Every postgraduate deserves a campus environment where stress is managed, isolation is reduced, and support is always within reach.
Disability / SEN Students
No student should be left behind because the system was not built with them in mind. We will ensure that students with disabilities and Special Educational Needs are not treated as an afterthought, but as a priority. This means pushing for real improvements to physical accessibility across campus, including reliable lifts, accessible toilets, and barrier-free learning spaces. It means strengthening academic adjustments such as Extra Time, assistive technology, flexible deadlines, and tailored exam arrangements. And it means advocating for sustainable, long-term mental health support, not short waiting lists and temporary fixes. Accessibility is not a favour. It is a right. King’s must work for every student.
Neurodiverse Students
Neurodiversity is not a weakness; it can be a strength. Students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other neurodivergent profiles deserve a university environment that understands and supports them. We will push for clearer and more consistent exam arrangements, expanded access to assistive technologies, quiet and low-sensory study spaces, and stronger mentoring and peer-support programmes. University systems should adapt to students, not force students to adapt to rigid systems. Inclusion is not about accommodation at the margins. It is about designing a university where different ways of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world are recognised, respected, and empowered.
Free Sanitary Products
Although some female toilets already provide sanitary product dispensers, we believe free sanitary products should be available in all female toilets. We will keep campaigning for wider distribution of free sanitary products and contraceptives across campus, as well as improved access to NHS services for our students.
KCL Buddy Scheme
Starting university can be exciting but it can also be overwhelming. Our KCL Buddy Scheme pairs new students with experienced peers to provide guidance, friendship, and practical support from day one. Whether it’s navigating campus, finding study resources, or simply knowing someone is there to listen, the Buddy Scheme ensures that no student has to face university life alone. We will continue to expand and improve the programme, making it inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of all students because building connections and fostering community is just as important as academic success.
Interruption to Studies Support
For various reasons, some of our students need to take a break from their studies. We are committed to providing the fullest wellbeing support and guidance to students taking a disruption year before, during, and after their leave. We will also help to minimize any obstacles to participating in study abroad programs.
Legal Support for Students
Students should never face housing or tenancy disputes alone. We will provide free and expert legal support for issues such as rental disagreements, accommodation contracts, deposit disputes, and other student-related legal challenges. This includes confidential advice, practical workshops, and access to qualified legal professionals who understand the unique pressures students face. No student should feel powerless when dealing with landlords, housing agencies, or other legal matters. Our goal is to ensure that every student has timely guidance and protection of their rights, so that living and studying at King’s is safe, fair, and stress-free. Because at King’s, your rights matter, and we are here to stand with you.
Crisis Intervention & Helpline Support
Every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and heard, especially during moments of crisis. We will advocate for enhanced campus crisis intervention services, including 24/7 helplines, trained responders, and immediate access to professional support. Whether it’s a mental health emergency, personal safety concern, or urgent wellbeing issue, students should know that help is always just a call or message away. Our goal is to ensure that no one faces a crisis alone, and that every student has timely, confidential, and compassionate support when they need it most. Non-native English speakers may face language barriers that prevent them from accessing help promptly, increasing the risk of accidents or emergencies.
4 Our Pledge to Cut the Waste & Sustainability
NUS Referendum
The National Union of Students (NUS) functions as a “Union of Unions,” representing student unions across the UK, but in practice it has become increasingly redundant. In recent years, the NUS has strayed from political neutrality and been embroiled in repeated controversies over issues such as Islamophobia, Antisemitism, Homophobia, and other forms of hate. The NUS president is not chosen by direct democracy; only a small number of delegates hold the vote. KCLSU currently pays £37,500 annually in associate membership fees to the NUS, receiving the National Student Survey (NSS) in return, a survey our students consistently dislike completing. This membership fee alone exceeds the combined cost of all other KCLSU memberships. Following the example of Imperial College London, which successfully withdrew from the NUS in 2008 and has thrived as an independent student union, we support holding a referendum on leaving the NUS. Exiting would save £37,500, which could instead be invested directly into our Student Societies. We firmly believe that Student Unions should operate independently and reject the notion of “unionizing the unions.”
Efficiency
We aim to boost the number of student volunteers and part-time student staff by reducing the number of full-time KCLSU employees. At present, there are over 70 unelected full-time positions, a bureaucracy that has become unnecessarily bloated. The funds spent on these roles could be far better invested directly in supporting our students.
Encourage Work from Home
The latest KCLSU Annual Report shows that over £3,000,000 was spent on College Space charges to KCL for costly London real estate. We will promote remote working for KCLSU staff and reduce the union’s office footprint, freeing up funds to create more student spaces such as installing the Meadow.
Smart Lighting Solutions
We are committed to building a greener, smarter, and more responsible King’s. To reduce unnecessary energy consumption, we will advocate for the installation of motion- and sound-activated lighting systems across all study spaces, lecture theatres, corridors, and shared facilities. Lights should only be on when they are needed, not left running in empty rooms.
Waste Reduction & Recycling Enhancements
We will improve recycling facilities across all campuses, making bins clearly labelled, easily accessible, and consistent between buildings. We will introduce composting stations for food waste in cafes and canteens and incentivise students and staff to reduce single-use plastics. Less waste, more impact; sustainability should be simple and visible.
Green Catering Initiatives
In addition to King’s Kitchen reforms, we can prioritise locally sourced, seasonal, and plant-based ingredients to reduce the carbon footprint of food. Special campaigns can encourage reusable cups, cutlery, and takeaway containers. Eating sustainably should be convenient, affordable, and mainstream.
5 Our Pledge to Student Futures & Careers
Student Career Opportunities
Our campaign recognises that career prospects are a top priority for our students. Studying in a city as expensive as London is a significant investment, and we are committed to doing everything we can to enhance job opportunities and employability for our students. We are thinking about your next steps before you even take them. We will fight for fair and equal access to opportunities for all.
Expand Careers Fair
Our Careers Fair is one of the most valuable opportunities for students to connect with potential employers. We pledge to grow it to the scale of the Freshers’ Fair by inviting more international companies, recognising that many students will seek opportunities beyond the UK after graduation. These companies are looking for talent, and our students are looking for jobs. Our expanded Careers Fair will become one of the largest student career events in London.
Careers Fair Rework
Our students are frustrated when companies with no real intent to hire occupy valuable booths at career fairs. We will ensure that only employers with genuine job vacancies, internships or full-time positions, are given space. Companies will be required to pledge a set number of positions for our students before securing a booth. KCL Careers Fair spots are highly competitive, and we will make sure they go to employers committed to offering the best opportunities for our students and alumni. No more wasting time on time-wasters!
Research Assistant Jobs
We will actively encourage research staff across King’s College London to prioritise offering Research Assistant (RA) roles to KCL students. Too often, Visiting Research Assistant Programmes hire exclusively from outside the university, taking opportunities away from highly qualified KCL students who are already familiar with our research environment. These positions are essential for building skills, experience, and career prospects, resources that should first benefit our own students. We will campaign for clear policies that give KCL students first consideration for RA roles and push for transparency in hiring practices within research programmes. No longer should external candidates take positions that rightfully belong to our students. Every RA opportunity at King’s should be a stepping stone for KCL students to advance their academic and professional careers.
Undergraduate Shadowing Schemes
We will collaborate with more companies, research institutions, and hospitals to provide our students with increased opportunities for Shadowing Schemes. We believe these experiences are invaluable, giving students the hands-on exposure and insights that make their CVs stand out to future employers.
Alumni Employability
We will expand alumni and external recruitment events to enhance employability after graduation. To support graduates navigating the current challenging job market, we will extend alumni access to KCL careers events to up to five years after graduation, ensuring continued guidance and opportunities beyond student life.
6 Our Pledge to Societies & Campus Life
Fund The Societies
We will implement a Minimum Funding Guarantee (MFG) for all KCLSU-approved societies, funded through the Student Wellbeing Levy and our “Cut the Waste” initiatives. This will provide two upfront payments each semester, which eligible societies can apply for at the start of the term. A NEW DEAL FOR KCL, supporting the activities that make our student community thrive!
Streamline Venue Hire
We will cut through the red tape and make venue booking fully automated, just like the Maughan Library system. No more outdated spreadsheets and bottlenecks handled by just two staff members! Our Student Wellbeing Levy will also discourage external companies from hogging venues, keeping King’s Venues for King’s own Events. Faster bookings. More students space. Every event for the students, by the students.
Venue Use & Wellbeing Levy
External companies booking KCL venues without benefiting students? We will introduce a 15% levy on external companies using KCL venues for events that don’t directly benefit our students or societies. This means more space, more funds, and more opportunities for student-led activities, wellbeing, and accessibility improvements. External companies will be encouraged to partner with our societies and include students or face the levy. Protecting student space. Supporting student life. Making every event count.
Simplifying Society Storage Applications
Student societies are the heart of campus life, and they deserve efficient, hassle-free access to the resources they need. We will streamline the application process for storage rooms and equipment, reducing paperwork, waiting times, and administrative hurdles. By making storage applications simpler and faster, we ensure that societies can focus on what really matters organising events, running projects, and building community rather than being bogged down by bureaucracy. Because at King’s, our spaces should serve our students, not slow them down.
Society Collaboration Scheme
We will launch a Society Collaboration Scheme, giving student groups the chance to explore innovative partnerships across different interests. Imagine a joint event where a sports society teams up with a music society for a charity tournament with live performances, or a cultural society collaborates with a debate society to host a global issues night. These collaborations will spark creativity, broaden participation, and strengthen community connections across King’s. By encouraging societies to work together, share ideas, and co-create events, we ensure that campus life is dynamic, diverse, and full of opportunities. At King’s, collaboration isn’t optional; it’s how we build a stronger, more vibrant student community!
7 Our Pledge to Address the Cost-of-Living Crisis
Student Discounts
We will negotiate exclusive KCL discounts and brand partnerships to help students tackle the cost-of-living crisis. Our SU will team up with “KCL on the Streets” and other initiatives that give back to the local community. Save money. Support your community. Make every pound count.
Student Accommodation
Our Student Wellbeing Levy and “Cut the Cost” initiatives will subsidise students in need and reduce the burden of living costs. We will also expand King’s property portfolio to include more affordable housing on the outskirts of central London. Cheaper rent. More options. Making London living work for KCL students.
KAAS Scheme
We will expand the King’s Affordable Accommodation Scheme (KAAS) to offer housing subsidies to prospective students. High living costs should not stop anyone from studying at King’s. We will make KAAS more visible, more accessible, and more available to all students. Affordable housing. Equal opportunity. Studying at King’s for everyone.
Emergency Student Fund
We will expand the Emergency Student Fund, partnering with international embassies and charities to provide urgent financial support to students in need, including international students. Immediate help. No student left behind. Support when it matters most.
FAB Guide
We will create the King’s Financial And Bursary (FAB) Guide to bring together all financial assistance and bursary schemes in one place. No more hunting through the outdated website—everything Home and International students need to reduce their study costs at King’s, all in one guide. Find your funding. Cut your costs. Never search for finance again!
8 Our Pledge to Defend the Freedom to Protest
Support the Right to Peaceful Demonstration
We will protect every student’s right to assemble and protest peacefully, fully within the KCLSU Articles of Association. Your safety and wellbeing are our top priorities; stand up, speak out, and know we’ve got your back!
Safety Networks to Support Student Protests
We pledge to make every student demonstration safe for all. By installing robust safety networks, we will protect the wellbeing of both protesters and the local community. Speak up safely. Protect everyone. Make your voice heard without compromise.
Support for Student Campaigns & Advocacy
We will empower students to organise campaigns, petitions, and awareness initiatives on issues they care about from climate change to social justice while providing guidance, resources, and official backing from KCLSU. This includes helping societies and student groups navigate university policies, secure spaces, and amplify their messages responsibly. Students should be free to advocate, influence, and lead change, knowing the Union stands firmly behind their right to make an impact. At King’s, activism is part of education; speak up, organise boldly, and make your voice count!
KCLSU Political Neutrality
We pledge to keep the Student Union politically neutral on real-world issues. At the same time, our Student Officers have the right to their own political beliefs without fear of losing their position. Neutral Union. Free voices. Protecting democracy at KCL.
Discontinue Audio Recording in Seminars
Lectures should be recorded, but seminars must remain a safe space for open discussion. We pledge to push the university to stop recording all seminars and group discussions, protecting the privacy and wellbeing of both students and staff. For those who can’t attend, comprehensive notes and discussion summaries will be provided instead. Speak freely. Stay protected. Keep seminars safe.
9 Our Pledge to the Muslim Community
Expanded Prayer Rooms
We will utilise underused teaching spaces for prayer, especially on Fridays, to reduce crowding and ensure students have a comfortable place to observe Jumu’ah [Surah al-Jumu’ah 62:9-10]. More space. Greater access. Supporting faith at King’s.
Keep Peace in Prayer Rooms
We will establish dedicated prayer hours where silence is strictly enforced, ensuring that Muslim students can pray without distractions. No eating, no chatting—just respect for those observing their prayers. Quiet. Respect. Faith-first spaces for all.
Dedicated Wudu Facilities
To support students in fulfilling their prayer requirements with dignity and ease, we will introduce properly designed wudu (ablution) facilities near prayer rooms. These will include designated foot-washing areas, low-level taps for accessibility, non-slip flooring to ensure safety, and privacy partitions to provide comfort and discretion.
Free Friday Timetables
We will fight to keep Fridays free from exams, lectures, and office hours, preserving it as a day of rest. Muslim students will be fully supported to meet their religious obligations [Sahih Muslim 865] without disadvantage. Rest. Respect. Religious freedom for all.
Posters for Qibla
While Qibla posters exist in prayer rooms, many students pray in study spaces. We will install clear Qibla posters, like mini mihrabs, in private study areas to make it easier to face the Kaaba [Surah al-Baqarah 2:144]. Pray anywhere. Pray right. Faith made easy at King’s.
Food Committee
We will establish a diverse Student Food Committee to review all campus meals for taste, hygiene, and cultural authenticity. More high-quality Halal options will be available in KCL kitchens, and whenever pork is served, an alternative halal option of lamb will be provided [Surah al-Ma’idah 5:3]. We will ensure that all halal food served on campus is verified by recognised certification bodies, with clear labelling of sources and certification standards in dining areas to guarantee transparency and build trust. Better food. Respect for all. Every meal matters.
Inclusivity
We will take a strong stand against Islamophobia on campus, promoting respect, understanding, and safety for all students. No hate. Full respect. Inclusion for everyone at King’s.
Ramadan Support Programme
During the holy month of Ramadan, we hope to extend dining hall opening hours to accommodate both iftar and suhoor, provide quiet prayer spaces and dedicated areas for breaking fast, and work closely with the Students’ Union to host inclusive Community Iftar dinners that bring our campus together in solidarity and celebration. Fast with ease. Break fast together. Unity in Ramadan.
Faith Awareness Workshops
Each semester, we will host an Interfaith Awareness Workshop to promote understanding of Islamic beliefs and practices among non-Muslim students, foster meaningful dialogue across faiths, and celebrate the cultural diversity that strengthens our campus community. Learn faith. Respect diversity. Build unity.
10 Our Pledge to the Indian/Hindu Community
Graduation Ceremonies in India
Building on our strong ties with India, we will host biennial graduation ceremonies in major Indian cities, following the University of Essex model, so international students can celebrate their achievements closer to home. Your success. Your celebration. Wherever you are.
Hindu Dharmic Prayer & Meditation Room
We recognise the importance of reciting Vedas, Sutras, Bhavanas, Mantras, and Sahibs for our Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, and Sikh students. We will create dedicated inclusive spaces to support the spiritual practices of all students. Faith respected. Spaces for all. Practice freely at King’s.
King’s Kitchen
We will upgrade King’s Kitchen and other dining venues by offering more high-quality vegetarian and Satvik options. Say goodbye to bland “white-washed” curries and hello to authentic, flavourful Indian cuisine. Real food. Real flavour. Respecting culture, delighting taste buds.
Food Committee
We will establish a diverse Student Food Committee to review all meals at King’s for taste, hygiene, and cultural authenticity. Many dishes, such as Indian cuisine, are currently misrepresented, reinforcing harmful stereotypes about minority cultures. Authentic food. Respect for culture. Quality meals for every student.
Indian Food Stall
Building on the huge success of the 2024 Cultural Food Fair, we will launch a KCLSU Indian Food Stall for students craving a taste of home and anyone eager to try authentic Indian finger foods. We will source from authentic suppliers and subsidise prices to make it affordable for all KCL students. Real flavour. Affordable eats. Bringing India to King’s.
Inclusivity
We will stand firm against Hinduphobia and Indophobia on campus, promoting respect, understanding, and safety for all students. No hate. Full respect. Inclusion for everyone at King’s.
11 Our Pledge to the Chinese Community
“Chinese New Year” Not “Lunar New Year”
Recently, using the term “Lunar New Year” in an KCL spring festival celebration open to King’s/LC Students and staff only has caused strong concern and frustration among Chinese students, as it does not accurately reflect the cultural and national significance of the festival. While the celebration is based on the lunar calendar, the official and widely recognised term is “Chinese New Year”. Using “Chinese New Year” ensures that King’s College London respects cultural traditions and recognises the festival’s importance for the Chinese community. It aligns with standard usage in official communications, media, and academic settings, avoids confusion with other lunar calendar festivals. At King’s, we are committed to listening to students, communicating respectfully, and celebrating cultural events accurately. From now on, all official references will use “Chinese New Year” to acknowledge and honour this important festival.
Chinese Food Stall
We will launch a KCLSU Chinese Restaurant and Delivery Service for students craving a taste of home. Students will be given chances to vote for their top 20 favourite dishes, and we will bring them to campus at subsidised, affordable prices. Using innovative solutions like robot chefs, we can make authentic Chinese cuisine accessible to all KCL students. Vote. Taste. Enjoy. Chinese food, your way at King’s. We will also establish a diverse Student Food Committee to ensure all food at King’s is reviewed for taste, hygiene, and cultural authenticity. Many dishes, including Chinese cuisine, are currently misrepresented, reinforcing harmful stereotypes about minority cultures. Authentic meals. Respect for culture. Quality food for every student.
Digital Graduation Certificates
Thanks to the strong advocacy of President Liu Baiyu last year, the university now fully recognises how critical timely graduation certificates are for Chinese students. Most of the measures have already been implemented, but we will continue to push and optimise this initiative. All Chinese students will have electronic certificates, ensuring immediate access, faster job applications, and a smoother start to your career. Graduate. Receive instantly. Launch your future.
No Classes on New Year’s Eve
We recognise that New Year’s Eve is a time for family, culture, and celebration. To respect and support students observing this important festival, we will ensure that no classes are scheduled on New Year’s Eve. Students should have the opportunity to celebrate traditions, reconnect with loved ones, and recharge without academic pressure. At King’s, we believe that honouring cultural observances is part of creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive campus community.
Warm Drinking Water
We recognize that many Chinese students prefer warm water rather than cold. We will continue to ensure accessible warm drinking water stations across campus, making hydration comfortable and inclusive for everyone. To improve quality and safety, we will introduce enhanced filtration systems to reduce limescale and impurities, ensuring cleaner, better-tasting water without relying solely on standard hot water dispensers. This commitment reflects our respect for diverse daily habits and preferences within our global community.
Lecture Video Chinese Subtitles
Since hybrid learning began, many Chinese students have struggled to follow lecture videos due to poor microphone quality. We will work with faculties to add Chinese subtitles to all lecture recordings, ensuring full inclusivity and equal access to learning. Learn clearly. Study confidently. No student left behind.
Graduation Ceremonies in China
With our large community of Chinese students and strong ties to the Chinese community, we will host biennial graduation ceremonies in major Chinese cities, following the successful examples of UCL and Queen Mary. Celebrate your achievements at home. Honour your journey. King’s success, closer to you.
Airport Shuttle Buses
Travel from the airport to your accommodation shouldn’t be a worry, especially for first-time international students. We will provide dedicated shuttle coaches to pick up international students at the start of every academic year. Smooth arrival. Stress-free start.
Fair and Student-Friendly Timetables
We believe that class schedules should work for students, not the other way around. To support wellbeing and effective learning, we will ensure that no classes are scheduled before 9:30 AM, and that lunchtime (12:00-13:00) remains free from lectures or tutorials. Students deserve reasonable, balanced timetables that allow time to rest, eat, and manage their day without stress. Some Chinese students get the habit of napping at noon as well. At King’s, we are committed to making learning accessible, sustainable, and student-centred, because education works best when students are supported, not exhausted.
Expanding Partnerships with Chinese Universities.
King’s College London thrives on collaboration and global impact. We will expand teaching and research partnerships with top Chinese universities, such as Southern University of Science and Technology, to create more opportunities for teaching, student exchange, joint research projects, and collaborative innovation. These partnerships will enhance academic excellence, provide international exposure, and foster cross-cultural learning, ensuring that students gain the skills and experience needed to succeed in a globalised world. By building stronger links with China, we can bring the world to King’s, and King’s to the world.
Inclusivity
We will stand strong against Sinophobia on campus and actively promote the values of Confucian principles, celebrating respect, wisdom, and harmony. No hate. Full respect. Embrace culture at King’s.
12 Our Pledge to Promote Asian Culture and Anime
Asian Culture Appreciation Fund (ACAF)
With our growing community of Anime, Manga, Vocaloid, J/Kpop, and J/Kdrama fans, we will continue to push for the Asian Culture Appreciation Fund (ACAF). This fund will support university events celebrating Japanese and Korean culture, manga purchases for libraries, and tickets to popular concerts like Ado, Hatsune Miku, and Yoasobi. Celebrate culture. Share passion. Experience Asia at King’s.
Cultural Festival/Bunkasai
We will host an annual festival celebrating the richness of Asian culture, from pop culture to traditional heritage. The festival will feature food stalls from student societies, similar to the popular Freshers Society Fair, and we will partner with external organisations like the Japan Foundation, Japanese MEXT, and South Korean MCST. Experience culture. Taste tradition. Celebrate Asia at King’s.
Manga in Libraries
We will expand the library collections to include a wide range of manga, manhwa, manhua, and light novels, appealing to fans across campus. Read more. Explore more. Discover Asia at King’s.
Authentic Asian Flavours
Say goodbye to imposters! Real Kimchi, real Ramen, real Asian cuisine. We're bringing diverse, high-quality rice like Japanese Sushi Rice and Nasi Goreng to your plate. Experience Asian food stalls on campus, celebrating the rich cultures often underrepresented. Taste it. Love it. Celebrate it.
Exchange Programmes
Expand your horizons with King’s exchange programmes, study a semester or a year at top Asian universities, like Japan’s leading law schools through the Dickson Poon School of Law. More exchange students on campus means more global friendships, richer cultural experiences, and a stronger international network. Connect. Explore. Thrive.
13 Our Pledge to Black Communities & Other Cultural Groups
Enhancing Black History Month at King’s
Black History Month at King’s should be more than a symbolic moment in October; it should reflect a sustained, meaningful commitment to recognition, education, and celebration. We will work to expand and strengthen Black History Month by improving funding, increasing visibility, and delivering high-quality panels, workshops, cultural events, and networking opportunities in collaboration with student societies and academic departments. We will advocate for broader promotion across all faculties so that participation extends beyond individual communities, and we will encourage year-round engagement with Black scholarship, history, and achievement. At King’s, celebrating Black history must be impactful, empowering, and embedded into our university culture, not confined to a single month, but embraced as an ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion.
Black Students Network (BSN)
The Black Students Network (BSN) plays a vital role in representing and empowering Black students at King’s. We will work to strengthen BSN by ensuring greater institutional support, increased visibility, and stronger collaboration with faculties and university leadership. By providing sustainable funding, expanding leadership development opportunities, and amplifying student-led campaigns and events, we will help BSN continue to be a powerful platform for advocacy, community building, and cultural celebration. At King’s, representation must be meaningful and BSN should be supported as a central voice shaping the Black student experience.
Race Equality Network (REN)
The Race Equality Network (REN) should be a driving force for dialogue, accountability, and structural change across King’s. We will support REN in fostering open conversations on race, equity, and inclusion while ensuring its work translates into tangible outcomes. By strengthening collaboration between students, staff, and leadership, and promoting participation across all faculties, we will help embed anti-racism and race equality into everyday university practice. Race equality must move beyond discussion; it must shape policy, culture, and decision-making at every level.
King’s Black Excellence Programme
The King’s Black Excellence Programme provides crucial academic, professional, and community support for Black and Mixed Black heritage students. We will advocate for expanded access, stronger promotion, and increased resources to ensure more students can benefit from its mentoring, career development, and leadership initiatives. By integrating the programme more visibly into faculty-level activities and employer engagement opportunities, we will strengthen pathways to success and recognition. Excellence should not be exceptional; it should be expected, supported, and celebrated.
KCL Black Creatives
KCL Black Creatives offers a vibrant platform for artistic expression, storytelling, and cultural innovation. We will support the growth of this community by securing better funding, improved event promotion, and stronger institutional recognition of creative work. By creating more showcase opportunities, interdisciplinary collaborations, and networking spaces, we will ensure Black creative voices are not only heard but amplified. Culture is power, and creative expression must be recognised as a vital part of academic and community life at King’s.
14 Our Pledge to Home Students

Campus shuttle bus
We’re proud to support and expand the Campus Shuttle Bus, championed by Ishika and Hasnain. Cheaper, faster, stress-free travel——King’s life, made simple!
Supporting Home Students
Funds from the Student Wellbeing Levy and our “Cut The Waste” initiatives will go directly to scholarships and support for Home Students in need, helping those from less privileged backgrounds thrive at King’s. Fairer funding, brighter futures. Everyone deserves a chance!
Home & International Student Partnership Programme
We will establish a Home–International Student Partnership Programme built on mutual support and cultural exchange. Home Students can help International Students better adapt to life in the UK from understanding academic expectations and navigating daily life to discovering local communities and opportunities. At the same time, International Students bring global perspectives, diverse traditions, and rich cultural experiences that broaden horizons and enrich campus life for Home Students. This is a partnership of equals. By creating structured meetups, shared academic initiatives, and cultural exchange events, we will foster genuine friendships, cross-cultural competence, and a more connected King’s community. Because diversity works best when it is shared, not separated and when students learn from one another, everyone grows.
15 Our Pledge to International Students
Digital Graduation Certificates for International Students
Thanks to the strong advocacy of President Baiyu Liu last year, the university now fully recognises how critical timely graduation certificates are for international students. Most measures have already been implemented, but we will continue to push and optimise this initiative. We hope to make sure all international students have electronic certificates, ensuring immediate access, faster job applications, and a smoother start to your career in your home country.
Airport Shuttle Buses
Stress-Free from the Start! We’re launching a free Airport Pick-Up Service, following the lead of the University of Leeds. At the start of every academic year, coaches will meet you at major London airports, making your arrival smooth and hassle-free. No heavy luggage struggles, no TfL confusion, just a warm welcome to your new home.
Campus Shuttle Buses
Seamless Campus Connections. Ride with Ease! We’re proud to support and expand the Campus Shuttle Bus, championed by KCLSU Student Trustee Samira Omar. Inspired by top universities like Imperial, West London, Roehampton, East London, and Greenwich, we’ll offer a subsidised shuttle linking Strand, Waterloo, Guy’s, Denmark Hill, and St. Thomas. Faster, cheaper, and stress-free travel across King’s campus life made simple!

We’re expanding the help desk, adding extra part-time staff during peak seasons, and exploring advanced AI tools to speed up answers to your queries. Quicker responses, less stress, smoother journeys, your visa support, upgraded.
Understand King’s in Your Own Language
Key documents like the Academic Regulations can be long and complex—especially if English isn’t your first language. We’re committed to providing translations in as many languages as possible, so every student can access, understand, and thrive. Clarity, inclusion, empowerment—King’s made easy for everyone!
16 Our Pledge to Part-time/Mature Students
Part-time/ Mature Students
We recognise that mature and part-time students have unique needs that are often different from those of full-time undergraduates. Social activities, online resources, and academic support should be designed to fit their schedules, responsibilities, and learning styles, ensuring that they can fully engage with university life and achieve academic success. At King’s, we are committed to creating an environment where every student no matter age or study mode feels included, supported, and empowered.
Student Parents and Carers
We recognise that students with family responsibilities face unique challenges balancing study, childcare, and daily life. We will advocate for better accommodation support, accessible childcare facilities, and flexible learning arrangements, so that parents and carers can fully participate in university life without compromising their family commitments. At King’s, having a family should never limit your opportunity to succeed; every student deserves the support and resources to thrive academically and personally.
Supporting Pregnant Students
Pregnancy should never be a barrier to education. We will ensure that pregnant students have access to tailored support, including flexible learning arrangements, pregnancy-friendly facilities, and guidance to balance studies with health and wellbeing. At King’s, your health and your education matter equally; every pregnant student deserves an environment where they can continue their studies safely, comfortably, and successfully.
Dedicated Support Hub for Part-time & Mature Students
A space designed for your needs, your pace, your success. We will create a dedicated Part-time & Mature Students Support Hub offering tailored academic guidance, time management and study skills workshops, peer networks and social events, as well as specialised counselling services that understand the unique pressures and challenges faced by adult learners. Whether you are returning to study, balancing work alongside your courses, or managing family responsibilities while pursuing your academic goals, you deserve a space that truly understands you. At King’s, you are never studying alone.
Representation & Advocacy Board for All Non-Traditional Students
We will establish a Representation & Advocacy Board dedicated to amplifying the voices of all non-traditional students, including part-time, mature, and returning learners. This board will ensure your concerns, needs, and ideas are heard at every level of the University and Student Union, influencing policy, resources, and campus life.
17 Our Pledge to Med & Health Students
King’s College London is home to a vibrant community of medical and health students across multiple faculties: the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, and the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. These students navigate high-intensity programmes, clinical placements, and research projects, often balancing academic, practical, and personal responsibilities simultaneously.
We recognise that medical and health students require specialised support, tailored resources, and accessible facilities to thrive. From advanced data platforms to practical timetable adjustments, exam clarity, and wellbeing-focused initiatives, our pledge is designed to empower students, enhance learning, and improve campus life for all who are training to become the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.
Making HSDTC Work for All Medical Students
We will ensure that the Health Sciences Doctoral Training Centre (HSDTC) is not just a research hub but a practical, student-focused resource for King’s medical students. By optimising the HSDTC platform and webpages, we will make it easier to access datasets, training modules, workshops, and research opportunities tailored specifically for healthcare and medical studies. Students will benefit from clear guidance, step-by-step tutorials, and examples on how to use health and social data ethically and effectively in their coursework and research. Our goal is to turn HSDTC into a fully accessible, visually intuitive, and highly functional platform that empowers medical students to analyse, innovate, and contribute to impactful healthcare solutions. At King’s, we believe that data should serve students as much as research, and every medical student deserves a platform that is easy to navigate, informative, and inspiring.
Better Lab Access & Equipment for Health Sciences
Your science deserves the tools to match your ambition. Students in Life Sciences, Psychology, Dentistry, Nursing, Medicine, and related fields rely on well-equipped laboratories and specialised resources. We’ll invest in funding and IT support to tackle technical issues in venues like Greenwood Lecture Theatre and New Hunt House (NHH). Say goodbye to freezing winter lectures—we’ll upgrade insulation and facilities, so your study spaces are comfortable, functional, and ready for learning! We will enhance access by extending lab opening hours, especially during exam and project periods, increasing the number of essential equipment to reduce queues and waiting times, providing a clearer booking system for lab use, and offering more hands-on training and safety guidance for beginners. Your future will drive advances in medicine and health sciences and right now, we will make sure you have the best tools and resources to succeed.
Privacy for All at NHH!
We’ll install doors on all bathroom stalls at New Hunt House, because everyone deserves privacy and dignity on campus. No more gaps, just comfort and respect!
No More Skipped Lunches!
We’ll work with Vice Deans and programme officers to fix timetable clashes, ensuring every student has a full hour free at noon to eat, recharge, and thrive. Better schedules, healthier students, happier campus life!
Better Clinical Placement Support
Clinical placements should empower you, not overwhelm you. We will work closely with NHS partners, clinical education teams, and departmental leadership to enhance the placement experience by providing more transparent allocation processes and earlier access to placement information, offering travel support for students commuting across campuses, conducting additional wellbeing check‑ins during intensive rotations, and ensuring clear learning objectives, assessment criteria, and feedback mechanisms for all placement students. Your clinical education should never rely on “luck” or figuring it out alone. At King’s, we are committed to making every placement a genuine opportunity for growth. Gain experience, build your future, and get ahead. King’s sets you up for success!
Simulation & Skills Labs Expansion
More practice. More confidence. Better clinicians. We will expand and enhance our clinical skills labs and simulation facilities by extending opening hours to allow practice beyond scheduled classes, introducing more high-fidelity simulation equipment (including OSCE, emergency response, and nursing skills simulators), offering additional small-group sessions led by expert instructors, and providing tailored skills modules for dentistry, nursing, medicine, psychology, and other health disciplines. Your future career demands strong practical expertise and King’s will provide the best environment to build it.
Interprofessional Collaborative Teaching (Medicine × Nursing × Psychology × Dentistry)
Learn together. Work together. Excel together. We will introduce and expand interprofessional collaborative teaching programmes, bringing students from medicine, nursing, psychology, and dentistry together in shared learning experiences. Through joint workshops, case discussions, and simulation exercises, students will develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills essential for modern healthcare. By learning across disciplines, you gain a deeper understanding of patient care and are better prepared for real-world clinical collaboration.
Exams Made Clear
We’ll ensure every student receives crystal-clear examination specifications, so you know exactly what’s expected and can perform at your best. Less confusion, more confidence, top results! We’ll ensure every student can use Turnitin effectively, understand originality checks, and avoid accidental plagiarism. Less confusion, more confidence, better academic integrity! Training will cover submission formats, similarity reports, and best practices for referencing.
Cross‑Campus Transport Support
Your education shouldn’t depend on how fast you can run between campuses. Healthcare students often need to travel between Guy’s, Waterloo, Denmark Hill, St Thomas’, and other campuses. We will support you by providing travel subsidies or discounts for cross-campus commuting, negotiating with TfL to improve access on key routes, implementing clearer navigation and scheduling tools between campuses, and ensuring more practical timetabling for clinical rotation students. Your learning time should be spent in lectures and clinical training not waiting at the tube station.
Eradicate the Rats
We’ll train Lenny to take on the rat problem at Guy’s Campus, keeping your spaces clean, safe, and a little more feline-friendly. No rats, no stress, just peace of mind!
18 Our Pledge to STEM Students
Save the Labs!
Study Longer, Achieve More! We’re committed to keeping study spaces like Informatics, Biology, Physics labs, Engineering Quads, and Libraries open longer. More hours, more access, your learning uninterrupted!
Make MCFs Work for You!
We’ll streamline the Mitigating Circumstance Form process and make it easier for NMES students to submit and get approved. Too often, students in Natural, Mathematical, and Engineering Sciences face unnecessary rejections; it’s time for a fairer, faster, and more supportive system. Your circumstances matter, your voice counts!
Stronger Voices for NMES!
The departments are too often overlooked, but we will expand the Student Rep programme to ensure every voice is heard and every student counted. More reps, more influence, more impact!
Elevate Student Experience!
We’ll forge strong partnerships with KCL Student Experience Officers and Vice Deans to improve module quality using Student Rep feedback and events. Unlike previous administrations, we won’t just hand off reps; we’ll collaborate directly with professors and staff, bridging the gap between students and faculty.
Power Up with RTX GPUs!
We’ll invest in Nvidia GPUs for students tackling AI and other computation-heavy fields. The i9 Intel machines were a start but to stay competitive with top UK universities, our students need more computational power, faster, stronger, smarter!
Study Spaces that Breathe and Inspire!
STEM study areas are stifling, bare, and uninspiring but we’re changing that. Expect more greenery, plants, and open greenspaces, plus refurbished windows for better ventilation. Study smarter, feel better, touch grass your STEM zone, upgraded!
Fix the Wi‑Fi, Fix Your Future!
Reliable Wi‑Fi = Real Productivity. STEM students’ biggest fear isn’t tough problems; it’s losing connection at the worst possible moment. We will upgrade Wi‑Fi coverage across Strand, Bush House, Guy’s, and Waterloo campuses, enhance high-speed networks in labs, engineering areas, computer rooms, basements, and server rooms, implement a more stable Eduroam authentication system, and increase routers and bandwidth in high-density spaces such as libraries, cafeterias, and study zones. Connection interruptions don’t just slow work; they disrupt focus and affect mood. We are committed to ensuring stable, high-speed networks across all areas, especially in spaces where students gather or work intensively, so that everyone can study, code, or research without disruption. Your code, experiments, simulations, and projects deserve a network that never drops. Stronger signal, faster speed, zero frustration, stay connected, stay focused, succeed at King’s!
STEM Career Boost: More Industry Links, More Opportunities
Your degree deserves real‑world power. We will strengthen STEM students’ industry connections by partnering with leading companies such as Google, Microsoft, DeepMind, GSK, AstraZeneca, Rolls‑Royce, IBM, and more to host career fairs, expand opportunities for internships, research assistantships, and engineering projects, offer dedicated career workshops in AI, Cybersecurity, Biotech, Robotics, Data Science, and invite alumni back to share their STEM career journeys. Your future isn’t just in the classroom; it’s in the industry, and we’ll help you open that door.
Smarter Software Access for Every STEM Student
No more “license expired” nightmares. We will ensure that all STEM students have seamless access to much more essential software, including MATLAB, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys; PyCharm, CLion, IntelliJ, WebStorm; SPSS, Stata, RStudio, as well as GPU-ready cloud computing environments. Say goodbye to chasing licenses or battling version conflicts; your tools should always be ready when you are.
STEM Wellbeing Matters
Your brain is your superpower; let’s protect it. STEM students often face overlooked pressures. We will introduce stress-relief workshops tailored for STEM disciplines, provide wellbeing support during intensive lab and project weeks, create Ergonomic Study Zones for engineering and computing students, and offer more quiet spaces with extended opening hours during exam periods. You are not a machine; you deserve care, support, and balance.
19 Our Pledge to Arts, Business & Law
Creative Spaces that Inspire
Your creativity deserves a home, not a hallway corner. We will create more dedicated ABL learning and creative spaces across Strand, Bush House, and Waterloo, including open studios for arts students, team discussion rooms and pitch spaces for business students, quiet study zones and moot prep rooms for law students, with improved lighting, soundproofing, and exhibition areas. Your ideas deserve an environment that truly supports them.
Real Industry Access for Real Careers
Your network should start at King’s, not after graduation. We will strengthen industry connections for ABL students by partnering with top law firms, investment banks, consultancies, and creative agencies for career fairs, expanding internships, shadowing, and case competition opportunities, launching ABL-specific mentorship programmes (alumni × students), and supporting business students’ entrepreneurship, showcasing arts students’ work, and providing career talks for law students. Your future isn’t just in the classroom it’s in the industry.
Fairer Assessments & Clearer Marking
No more vague rubrics or mysterious grade drops. We will ensure transparent grading criteria, faster feedback, and clearer coursework requirements, alongside customised assessment guidance for arts, business, and law students. You should know how to succeed not have to guess.
More Support for International ABL Students
Global students deserve global support. With many international students in ABL, we will provide clear guidance on visas, internships, and employment, academic writing and speaking support for non-native English speakers (especially in law and business), host cross-cultural networking events, and simplify administrative and academic processes. Your background is an advantage, not a barrier.
Moot Courts, Pitch Rooms & Creative Studios
Your practice spaces should match your ambitions. We will upgrade law moots with improved lighting, sound, and recording, enhance business pitch rooms with projectors, whiteboards, and presentation tech, and expand art studios, exhibition, and rehearsal spaces, while providing shared creative spaces for cross-disciplinary projects. Your training at King’s should meet the standards of your future profession.
20 Our Pledge to Undergraduate (Bachelors)
Fairer Workload, Healthier Students
Your degree shouldn’t feel like a marathon with no water breaks. We will reform undergraduate workloads to ensure better balance in assignments no more four deadlines in one week, reasonable reading and seminar preparation expectations, clear weekly planning guidance, and reduction of unnecessary tasks during exam periods. Your time is precious, and your health matters even more.
Better Academic Advising for Every Undergraduate
You deserve guidance, not guesswork. We will provide easier-to-book, higher-quality academic advising, additional transition support for first-year students, tailored guidance for international, transfer, and dual-degree students, and transparent explanations of academic policies (resits, MCFs, extensions). You shouldn’t have to navigate university systems alone; we’ll make sure you get the support you need.
More Social Spaces, More Community
University life is more than lectures; it’s connection. We will expand undergraduate social spaces at Strand, Guy’s, and Waterloo, offer more low-cost, alcohol-free, inclusive events, support inter-faculty student society collaborations, and promote “Undergraduate Community Days”. You deserve to find your community at King’s.
Affordable Campus Life
Your wallet shouldn’t determine your university experience. We will increase £3–£5 affordable dining options, create more transparent accommodation fees, provide additional hardship fund support for low-income students, and offer free or low-cost printing, software, and study resources. University life shouldn’t be an economic burden.
Clearer Communication, Less Confusion
No more last‑minute emails or hidden information. We will ensure earlier, more stable timetable releases, clearer assessment briefs and deadline notifications, unified Moodle/KEATS page structures, and faster administrative responses. You should spend your time learning, not lost in emails.
21 Our Pledge to Postgraduate Taught (Masters)
Better Campus life
Postgrad Taught students are only here for a year, but that doesn’t mean you should be invisible. We’ll introduce tailored Fresher events, social mixers, and networking sessions designed specifically for taught postgrads, while integrating you with undergrad events to make you feel part of the wider King’s community. We’ll also increase your representation in KCLSU committees, ensuring your concerns and ideas are heard and acted upon. One year, maximum impact!
Digital Graduation Certificates for Postgraduate Taught (Masters)
Thanks to the strong advocacy of President Liu Baiyu last year, the university now fully recognises how critical timely graduation certificates are for students. Most measures have already been implemented, but we will continue to push and optimise this initiative. For postgraduate taught students, digital graduation certificates are especially vital: they allow you to apply promptly for job positions, research grants, or professional certifications, often on tight deadlines. They also enable seamless verification for employers or academic institutions globally, and provide a secure, permanent record of your advanced qualifications. Your hard-earned achievements should be recognised instantly, supporting the next stage of your academic or professional journey without delay.
Smarter Timetables for One‑Year Masters
Your schedule should support your success, not sabotage it. We will revamp timetabling for one-year master’s students to make every day manageable and productive. No more cramming 3–4 high-intensity seminars into a single day or rushing across campuses in impossible 10-minute gaps. Part-time students will benefit from flexible evening and online options, and dissertation periods will be protected from unnecessary course conflicts. One-year Masters programs demand focus, efficiency, and balance; your timetable should help you thrive, not burn out.
Make The Space
Dissertation writing and study spaces are critical for postgrad success. We’ll secure dedicated spaces across all departments, including quiet study zones, group collaboration rooms, and common areas for these students. Your access to these spaces will be prioritised, ensuring you can work uninterrupted and feel supported. Better spaces, better focus, better results!
More Scholarships & Hardship Support for PGT Students
Financial pressure shouldn’t define your postgraduate experience. We will fight to provide more targeted scholarships for Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students, along with a transparent and easy-to-access hardship fund. International Masters students will benefit from clearer guidance on fees and support channels, and low-income students will receive additional subsidies for learning resources. Your academic potential should never be limited by financial constraints; at King’s, we ensure you have the support to thrive.
Postgrad Careers Service
Finding a career after advanced study is challenging. We’ll work with King’s Careers & Employability (KC&E), academic departments, and industry partners to expand opportunities for postgraduates. We’ll provide career workshops, employer networking, CV guidance, and interview prep tailored to postgraduate needs, helping you overcome the “overqualified dilemma” and maximize your employment prospects.
22 Our Pledge to Postgraduate Researchers (MPhil/PhD)
Fixed Wrking Desks for PhD Students
PhD students need consistent, reliable classrooms and study spaces. We’ll secure dedicated rooms across all departments, ensuring you have a place to focus, collaborate, and innovate, every day of the week. Stable spaces, stable progress, stable success!
Microwaves, Fridges, Dishwashers
Proper nutrition is essential for focus, energy, and wellbeing. We’ll ensure that all faculties have fully functional kitchen facilities, including microwaves, fridges, and dishwashers, to support students and staff. A hot meal, anytime you need it, so you can stay energized, healthy, and productive.
Longer Building Use Time
JCMB is a central hub for Nursing PHDs. We’ll fight to keep JCMB fully open, well-maintained, and accessible for all postgraduates, providing quiet study areas, labs, and collaboration spaces that support research and learning. Accessible, safe, and student-focused; JCMB stays open for you!
Collaboration with KDSA
PhD students have unique needs that are often overlooked. We’ll boost KDSA presence and strengthen collaboration with the Student Union, ensuring postgrad researchers get proper representation, resources, and advocacy. Your feedback on supervision, research funding, and study conditions will be actively sought and implemented. Your research, your voice, amplified!
PhD Job Opportunities
Research Assistant (RA) roles and postgraduate positions are highly competitive, and KCL students should come first. We’ll implement a KCL-First policy, ensuring that all internal opportunities are advertised first to KCL postgraduates, giving you priority access to roles you are fully qualified to perform. Your skills, your roles, your future!
King’s Talent Bank (KTB)
Some faculties are underrepresented in KTB opportunities. We’ll expand the Talent Bank, partnering with external companies and organisations to bring in more internships, part-time jobs, and project placements for postgraduates. This ensures every student has equal access to diverse and meaningful opportunities. More opportunities, more choice, more growth!
Team-Building Fund (PTF)
PhD researchers often lack social and networking opportunities. We’ll launch a PhD Team-Building Fund to subsidise social events, team dinners, hikes, board game nights, and networking activities across all faculties. These events will reduce stress, foster friendships, and improve mental health, helping you build both professional and personal connections. De-stress, connect, thrive; your postgraduate experience elevated!
Entrepreneurial Opportunities
Postgraduates are innovators, and King’s should support that. We’ll create pathways for entrepreneurship, including wider access to incubators, mentorship programs, workshops, and funding for student-led projects. Whether launching a startup or developing research with commercial potential, we’ll make sure you have the resources to succeed.
Alumni Networks
King’s alumni are a powerful resource. We’ll connect PhD students with influential alumni across industries and disciplines, providing mentorship, career advice, networking events, and collaborative opportunities. Learn from the best, expand your network, and open doors to future success.
Postdoctoral Application Workshops
Your PhD is just the beginning — let’s plan what comes next. We will host dedicated workshops for PhD students on postdoctoral applications, covering proposal writing, fellowship opportunities, interview preparation, and securing funding. These sessions will give you the tools, strategies, and confidence to take the next step in your academic career. Your research journey continues and we’ll make sure you’re ready for it.
Enhance GTA Training
Equip yourself to teach with confidence and impact. We will implement comprehensive training programs for Graduate Teaching Assistants, covering pedagogy, assessment, classroom management, and inclusive teaching practices. This ensures that every GTA is well-prepared, confident, and supported, creating a better learning environment for students while enhancing your own professional development. Teaching is a skill and we’ll help you master it.
23 Our Pledge to King’s Alumni
Stay Connected, Stay Powerful!
Alumni Emails
Your @kcl.ac.uk email shouldn’t disappear at graduation. We’ll transition it to an alumni domain, similar to LSE, so you can retain academic references, data, and professional contacts. Your email, your lifelong connection!
Digital Graduation Certificates for Alumni
Graduate. Receive instantly. Launch your future. Thanks to the strong advocacy of President Liu Baiyu last year, the university now fully recognises how critical timely graduation certificates are for Chinese students. Most of the measures have already been implemented, but we will continue to push and optimise this initiative. All international students will have electronic certificates, ensuring immediate access, faster job applications, and a smoother start to your career. For alumni, digital certificates are equally important; they allow you to verify your qualifications anytime, anywhere, support applications for further study or employment, and maintain a permanent, secure record of your achievements. Graduation shouldn’t be delayed by paperwork; your accomplishments deserve instant recognition and lifelong accessibility.
King’s Alumni Benefits+
More perks. More value. More reasons to stay connected. We will launch the Alumni Benefits+ programme, offering a wide range of exclusive privileges designed to strengthen lifelong connections with King’s. This will include alumni-only discounts at campus bookstores, cafés, gyms, and partner businesses; priority access to exclusive lectures, seminars, and industry forums; dedicated opportunities for alumni-funded scholarships and named giving initiatives; and VIP access with priority registration for Alumni Homecoming events. Because graduation is not the end; it’s an upgrade to your lifelong relationship with King’s.
Lifetime KCLSU Membership
Career support that lasts beyond graduation! Following the lead of Oxbridge, Imperial, and UCL, we’ll offer lifetime KCLSU membership and free access to KCLSU facilities for alumni and retired staff. No more paying £30 each time to renew library access or £25 annually for associate membership; your King’s connection should last a lifetime!
Alumni Entrepreneurship Fund
We will establish a dedicated Alumni Entrepreneurship Fund to support graduates who are ready to turn bold ideas into real ventures. The fund will provide seed grants, mentorship from experienced alumni founders, networking opportunities with investors, and access to university-backed innovation spaces. By empowering entrepreneurial ambition beyond graduation, we ensure that King’s remains a launchpad for lifelong innovation and impact.
Alumni-Student Social Events
We’ll dedicate more events for alumni to connect with current students, sharing knowledge, mentoring, and networking. Stronger alumni-student ties = better opportunities for everyone!
Employability
We’ll expand alumni and external recruitment events, giving graduates more opportunities to secure jobs and build careers. Alumni access to KCL careers events will be extended up to 5 years after graduation, helping you navigate today’s job market and thrive professionally.
Alumni Honours & Annual Awards
We will establish a King’s Alumni Honours System, including an annual Alumni Awards ceremony to recognise outstanding graduates who have made exceptional contributions to their professions, communities, and society. By celebrating achievement, leadership, and service, we will shine a spotlight on the impact of our alumni across the world inspiring current students and strengthening pride in the King’s community. Honouring excellence. Celebrating impact. Inspiring the next generation.
Alumni Membership Card (AMC)
Graduates hold special memories at King’s. We’ll introduce an Alumni Membership Card, available for £5 within 5 years of graduation, giving alumni access to King’s facilities, student events, and voting rights in SU elections. Stay involved, stay valued!
Alumni Centre
We’ll transform the Macadam Building into a dedicated Alumni Centre, similar to LSE. A space to network, socialise, and collaborate with fellow alumni and current students. Your home at King’s, even after graduation!
AKC Programme
We’ll abolish the outdated 2-year AKC Programme. All graduates will automatically reserve the right to use the post-nominal ‘AKC’, preserving the tradition while ensuring flexibility for unconventional study paths, just like Imperial’s AIC/AICSM system. Tradition respected, students empowered!
24 Our Pledge to the LGBT+ Community
Toilets
We will significantly increase the number of single-occupancy Gender Neutral Toilets, while also maintaining communal male and female toilets across all major campuses. King’s past cost-cutting, converting female toilets into gender-neutral without providing adequate facilities, is unacceptable. We will ensure safe, accessible, and inclusive facilities for everyone, including disabled students. Privacy, dignity, and equality for all!
LGBT+ Buddy Scheme
We will create a dedicated LGBT+ Buddy Scheme, pairing LGBT+ students with trained volunteer mentors. This programme will provide support, guidance, and community, helping students navigate campus life, mental health resources, and the wider world. Whether you’re new to King’s or seeking connections, this buddy system ensures no one feels alone. This will provide a space for students to connect and thrive. Support, connection, empowerment!
Student Mentoring
We will expand mentorship opportunities, pairing students from the LGBT+ community with experienced peers, alumni, and staff allies who can offer guidance, share experiences, and provide advice on academic, professional, and personal challenges. At King’s, every student deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. Through vibrant activities and strong mentorship, LGBT+ students will have the resources, networks, and confidence to succeed academically, socially, and professionally.
Oppose Virtue Signalling
Our Campaign Committee rejects empty gestures and lip service. We focus on practical, tangible solutions that improve the real-life experience of LGBT+ students. From safe spaces, mentorship, and policies to advocacy in university governance, we will deliver outcomes that matter, not slogans that don’t. Safety, community, and meaningful change—always!
Inclusivity
We will actively fight against homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of discrimination on campus. This isn’t just about words—it’s about action. We’ll implement anti-discrimination training for staff and students, increase visible support networks, and ensure reporting mechanisms are accessible and effective. Every student should feel safe, respected, and fully included at King’s, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Equality in action, not just words!
