KCL Sanctuary for Gaza Campaign

KCL SANCTUARY FOR GAZA CAMPAIGN RATIFICATION

Mission Statement

King’s College London is not being supportive or accommodating towards Gazan students who hold offers to study at KCL, which we know from reaching out to former Gazan applicants who lost their place at King’s this year. Applicants from Gaza had lost their offers because they could not afford the application or deposit fees and are unable to take required English tests, as no test centres operate in Gaza. With limited support from KCL, many must remain in a warzone instead of continuing their studies. This denies students access to education and safety, undermining KCL’s claim to be a “University of Sanctuary,” and perpetuates inequality in access to higher education.

Our campaign will ensure KCL offer-holders in Gaza are not denied their futures because of war or poverty. By urging King’s to remove financial and bureaucratic barriers, we aim to give these students the chance to study in safety and dignity, reflecting the compassion and values that a true University of Sanctuary should uphold.

We want King’s College London to support students applying from Gaza by removing financial and procedural barriers, so they have an actual chance to study at the University safely. We aim to achieve this by:

Campaign goals...

  • Getting KCL to offer fee waivers, deposit exemptions, and deadline flexibility for students applying from Gaza.

  • Pushing for more scholarships and financial support for Palestinian offer-holders affected by the genocide.

  • Raising awareness among students and staff about what is happening to applicants from Gaza by using posters, social media outreach and marketing, and public meetings. The aim of this is to then encourage them to act through open letters and petitions to advocate for policy changes within King’s.

  • Encouraging KCL to live up to its “University of Sanctuary” values by showing compassion and flexibility for students in need.

This benefits Palestinian offer-holders from Gaza and future students from Palestine, or potentially applicants from other conflict-ridden countries, facing similar barriers. This campaign is about helping students from Gaza rebuild their lives and access education in safety. Studying at King’s would give them the chance to escape the conflicts, rebuild their lives, and be part of a safe and welcoming community. This campaign will also hold the university accountable, as it was awarded ‘University of Sanctuary’ status in 2024, but failed to withhold their reputation in 2025.
