Campaign Aim
The 'DPE: Room for Growth' campaign aimed to address how there isn't a space for the Political Economy Department that meets the social and academic needs of their students. They aim to establish a common room that will serve both purposes and will be equipped with the necessary academic resources, study and communal areas. Their goal is to promote the academic and personal growth of DPE students by providing a space for study, collaboration and community building.
In short, to ultimately foster a strong sense of community and belonging among DPE students, this campaign aimed to:
- Establish a dedicated DPE common room.
- Ensure the room is equipped with necessary academic resources and study areas.
Campaign Impact
Student Campaigners and members of the Student Staff Liaison Committee, Abdul and Tasneem were in conversation with various Program Directors and the Student Engagement team through 2024-25. In their working roles, they have engaged with students, staff and faculty across DPE and noticed a stark need for DPE students to have their communal and academic space. As a result, they took matters into their own hands to take Room for Growth to the next level.
On the 14th of March 2024, this campaign group scheduled the open meeting From Blueprint to Reality: Crafting the DPE Common Room Together. This provided a significant opportunity for all studto actively participate and voice their concerns, suggestions, and expectations regarding the creation of a common room. One that would meet their academic needs but also fosters an environment of community engagement and collaboration.
Towards the end of 2025, progress for gaining a student space for the DPE died down and ultimately, this campaigning could reach full ratification.
