I’m sure you’ve heard of KCLSU or saw our name at least once during your application process. You’re also probably aware that most universities have a students' union. I’m sure you’ve heard of KCLSU (King's College London Students' Union) or saw our name at least once during your application process. You’re also probably aware that most universities have a students' union (SU). But do you know what an SU is? In this blog, I’ll explain to you what a students' union is and what resources you can find here.

A students' union is a student-run organisation that dedicates its time and resources to give the whole student community of the university, fairness, opportunities and a voice. In the case of KCLSU, it’s also here to organise events making your student experience at King’s vibrant by hosting events and fairs, give spaces for student groups to host activities and provide safe spaces for students like venues and study spaces. At KCLSU, students can socialise and connect, have fun, build communities, make change and prepare for their future. Every student is automatically a member of the students' union and as a charity you can be assured that every penny spent at the students' union when eating lunch, grabbing a coffee or spending the night at one of our venues will directly go back to improve the student experience at King’s!

Governance

KCLSU is run by students, for students and is independent of King's College London and our decisions, policies and what we do are decided by our 40,000 student members including you! Make sure to participate in the elections to elect the Student Officers, Union Development members and Student Reps you want representing you. As a democratic charity and membership organisation, students lead the students' union at every level to achieve our priorities.

Student Groups and Societies

An excellent way to socialise and enjoy your time at King’s is to join one of the many student groups including: Activity Groups, Sports Clubs, Student Media, Student Networks, and Academic Associations. With over 300 societies, sports and other student activity groups - there's something for everyone! Make sure to pass by the KCLSU Welcome Fair to know more about the various Student Groups and join one!

Venues and Study Spaces

Here at KCLSU, we pride ourselves on our spaces. We’ve got four fantastic venues for you to chill out in, have a drink, eat some great food and hang with your friends: Guy's Bar and The Vault to grab food or a drink with classmates after your lectures; and The Shack and The Shed to grab a coffee, tea or a pastry in the morning or in between classes. These are safe spaces dedicated to students.

Make an Impact on the King’s Community

KCLSU is the perfect place to have an impact at King’s during your studies. It provides you with many volunteering opportunities. If you also need money but would like to have a purposeful role into your community, many part-time positions are available for all students!
