The final nominations period for this academic year has now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted nominations throughout the year and helped celebrate the incredible achievements taking place across the King’s community.
Our Monthly Awards recognise outstanding contributions across three categories:
- Group of the Month (Club, Society, Network)
- Project of the Month (Volunteering, Event, Student Media, Campaign)
- Volunteer of the Month (Individual)
Over the past year, we have received nominations highlighting inspiring volunteering initiatives, successful student-led events, impactful campaigns, and dedicated individuals who have gone above and beyond to support others and strengthen student life at King’s.
Group of the Month – GKT Netball

This month’s Group of the Month goes to GKT Netball in recognition of one of the most successful and inspiring seasons in the club’s history.
Across all teams, GKT Netball achieved exceptional league success this year, demonstrating remarkable commitment, resilience, and teamwork. The club celebrated multiple league titles, including the 1st Team becoming BUCS Tier 1 League Winners and securing promotion to the BUCS Premier League following a dramatic 34–33 victory over Cardiff University. This historic achievement means GKT is now the only medical school in the country with a netball team competing in a BUCS Premier Division.
The club’s success extended throughout the squad, with the 3rd Team winning the LUSL Division 1 League, the 4th Team winning BUCS Tier 8A, and the 5th Team winning BUCS Tier 9B while also reaching the semi-finals of the South Eastern Conference Shield Tournament.
What makes these achievements even more impressive is the dedication required to balance elite-level sport alongside demanding healthcare degrees. GKT Netball’s players have continued to excel while managing hospital placements, long commutes across London, clinical commitments, and intense exam schedules. Through their determination and support for one another, they have created a community that empowers female athletes and challenges assumptions around women in healthcare and competitive sport.
Congratulations to GKT Netball on winning Group of the Month!
Project of the Month – Medical and Dental Taster Day

This month’s Project of the Month goes to the Medical and Dental Taster Day organised by the Islamic Society ARK Team.
The event was designed for Year 12 students from widening participation backgrounds, offering them an immersive introduction to careers in medicine and dentistry. Students rotated through a variety of practical and educational stations including Basic Life Support, suturing workshops, and opportunities to speak directly with current medical professionals and students.
The project required months of planning from a dedicated team of five organisers, who carefully designed each activity to maximise the students’ learning and confidence. The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with participants highlighting how valuable and inspiring the experience was.
Beyond the event itself, the team has committed to supporting attendees through a long-term mentorship scheme, helping students navigate the university application process and build confidence as they pursue medical or dental school places. By creating accessible opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds, the ARK Team demonstrated a strong commitment to widening participation and levelling the playing field in higher education.
Congratulations to the Islamic Society ARK Team on winning Project of the Month!
Volunteer of the Month – Aliya Ghafoor

This month’s Volunteer of the Month is Aliya Ghafoor, recognised for her exceptional leadership in founding and developing KCL Polo Club.
Over the past year, Aliya has led every aspect of the club’s development, including organising lessons and playing opportunities, managing finances, overseeing branding and media, coordinating socials, and building partnerships. Through her leadership, KCL Polo has rapidly established itself within the King’s community and the wider university polo network.
Aliya has worked tirelessly to make polo more accessible and inclusive, challenging perceptions of the sport as traditionally elite and male-dominated. By introducing subsidised sessions, reducing barriers to entry, and creating welcoming social opportunities, she has opened the sport up to a far wider range of students and fostered a genuine sense of belonging within the club.
In its first year alone, KCL Polo has achieved recognition through KCLSU Welcome events, features in Polo Times, SUPA recognition, and a collaboration with Black Hound Sportswear. Aliya has also helped organise Varsity events, spectating socials, a funded trip opportunity to the Pacific Cup in China, and a club-wide summer trip to Saint Cannat Polo Club.
Through her dedication, vision, and commitment to inclusion, Aliya has not only founded a successful club but has redefined what polo at King’s can look like.
Congratulations to Aliya on winning Volunteer of the Month!
