Fairer funding for postgraduates campaign underway

Our Vice President for Postgraduates, Jessica, has launched a new postgraduate funding campaign.

The campaign, ‘Fairer Funding for Postgraduates’ is looking to get a third instalment for postgraduates, cut deposit fees particularly for international students and lobby for more scholarships and bursaries for postgraduates.

Jessica has strong reasons for starting the campaign after her own experiences as a postgraduate student at King's. She said, ‘Funding is one of the biggest issues postgraduate students need to think about, concerns can shape and define the student experience.

‘When I joined King’s I had to pay a £1,000 deposit to secure my place on my programme. This is a huge struggle and barrier to access. The postgraduate loan did not cover my tuition fee or living expenses, as a result, I changed my mode of study to part-time so that I could work in order to fund my degree. It was a challenge combining work and study.’

The campaign is up and running and Jessica’s message to students is clear; ‘Fairer funding affects us all. All students should have access to all of the opportunities available at postgraduate level;  funding should not be a reason why a student is unable to undertake postgraduate study. Please support the case for better postgraduate funding.’

You can find out more about the campaign and how to get involved on the Fairer Funding for Postgraduates web page.
