Roundel with LONDON written on it

Have you just moved to London for your studies? Are you looking to meet people and discover the best city spots? Here is a breakdown of the London must-sees, the greatest study and party places as well as the best activities for students on a budget. While London can be overwhelming at first, it is home to a rich and diversified culture of which we will only scratch the surface here.

Where to go out in London?

London offers endless options when it comes to nightlife. Whether you are looking for a cheap pub, a chill bar or a hectic nightclub, your needs will be satisfied. Some of the most famous neighbourhoods for going out are Soho for central and exclusive parties, Camden for smaller gigs and trendy pubs, and Mayfair for luxurious nightclubs and restaurants.

Where to study in London?

King’s libraries offer a perfect study environment exclusively for King’s students, but if you want to switch up your routine or simply discover more of London, try out the Senate House library. The library is popular as it offers free membership for students.

If you prefer to work with white noise and in more crowded surroundings, London offers numerous cafes with delicious coffee, power ports and great WiFi. Bea’s of Bloomsbury is a very British, comfy and study-prone spot near St. Paul’s Cathedral. It also has a rooftop if you need a fresh-air break! What are the best outdoor spots?

London, especially during summer and early autumn, is the epitome of outdoor pleasures. There are beautiful and colourful spots that you absolutely cannot overlook.

The archetypal outdoor spot for a Londoner would be street food markets: situated in many corners of the city, you will not have trouble finding a favourite. The most famous ones are Camden Market, where you will find food as well as vintage shops and street art, Borough Market if you want a more closed and convivial atmosphere, or Brixton Village for a large variety of original options.

Several parks are spread across London and offer you the possibility to relax and, surrounded by greenery, rest your mind by going on walks or picnics with friends. Hyde Park, for example, is one of the biggest parks in the heart of the city. It is especially famous for its Serpentine Lake on which rowing a boat is a prime activity.

What are the greatest activities on a budget in London?

The greatest way to make friends or simply to have fun is not necessarily expensive! With a student ID, you can easily get discounts at cinemas, museums, and shopping places.

Other activities can also be completely free! For example, book a free online ticket for the Sky Garden and you can admire the London skyline from one of the city’s tallest skyscrapers. Furthermore, the entire indoor area shows a beautiful and relaxing garden.

Finally, remember to sign up for KCLSU societies and attend some of the events they run every week! Check out our groups here.
