Islamophobia Awareness Month

KCLSU President

November is Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM), a 10-year campaign founded by a group of Muslim organisations aiming to shape a society free from Islamophobia in all of its forms, to showcase the positive contributions of Muslims as well as raising awareness of Islamophobia in society.

This year the theme for IAM is denial and to mark the end of the month, on Thursday 8 December at 2 pm join KCLSU President Mohd Yasir Khan for a talk with the Dean of Cambridge Muslim College, Dr Timothy Winter (Abdul Hakim Murad) about Islamophobia in the West.

As a Students’ Union that is home to Muslim students, KCLSU has a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, bullying and discrimination. We, as a Student Officer team, condemn every form of aggression on the grounds of religion and we support IAM 2022.

We also encourage any students who are struggling with discrimination – in any form - to email us via [email protected], so that we can provide the relevant support.

If you need any mental health support or just someone to talk to, you can also use any or all of the resources below:

  • Pro-Counselling is a free and confidential counselling service for King’s students. You can call them on 0808 196 6172 from 17.00 to 09.00 on weekdays and 24/7 on weekends, bank holidays and King’s closure days.
  • TogetherAll is an anonymous, free and 24/7 online service you can access with your King’s email.
  • Our Wellbeing Hub is packed with resources, links, advice and ideas to support you with your wellbeing and mental health all year round.
  • King’s Chaplaincy is a resource for all students and staff at King’s, of all faiths and none. They welcome all students to get in touch if you need any support, especially during difficult times.
  • If you feel your academic experience is suffering due to what is happening, our KCLSU Academic Advice team provides free, confidential, and impartial academic advice to students with issues affecting your studies.

If you want to find out more, you can visit Islamophobia Awareness Month or KCL ISOC to get involved in their campaigns.
