Drink spiking on the increase in London

KCLSU Officers

The KCLSU Student Officer team and the SU have been made aware of the increasing cases of drink spiking taking place around London venues, some of which are regularly attended by our students. We want to assure our student body that we are following this issue closely and speaking to any relevant parties to ensure we remain aware and take action. The Student Officer team stands in solidarity and in support with any of our students and victims impacted by this.

We would like to remind everyone that the spiking of drinks is an assault: a criminal offence with serious consequences, which could lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

If you are attending any events at our venues and think your drink has been spiked, please let our bar and security staff know as soon as possible so they can help you. You can read more information about drink spiking on the Drink Aware Drink Spiking Information Guide. We all know London is a great city to explore particularly at night, and we want all students to be able to enjoy what the city has to offer while also feeling safe - check out these tips for staying safe when out.

If you are personally affected by any incidents at KCLSU venues or believe you or a friend have been the victim of drink spiking, please seek immediate assistance from KCLSU staff or security in our venues. You can use our “Ask Angela” code, or just ask to be taken to a safe place for proper help. This may also help us with identifying the person who has spiked the drink.

We hope you are all staying safe and please reach out to [email protected] if you need to report any instances of drink spiking on campus.
