Open to both Medics and Non-Medics, GKT FC welcomes all King's students. As one of the two football clubs at King's College London, we are proud to combine an inclusive community with a unique sporting heritage.
Rooted in nearly two centuries of tradition, GKT FC traces its history all the way to 1843 as one of the oldest football clubs in the world and remains one of the most successful university and hospital-affiliated football clubs in London. With five teams competing across BUCS and LUSL, we cater for players of all abilities while maintaining a culture built on excellence, camaraderie and tradition.
Teams train on Monday evenings, with matches taking place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We also compete in the University Hospitals Challenge Cup – the oldest football trophy in the world after the FA Cup. Our season concludes in the spring, ensuring football does not clash with exam season.
Recent years have brought remarkable success for GKT FC. Last season, our 1st XI completed a clean sweep in both derby fixtures, defeating UCL Medics in Varsity for the third consecutive year. And in the annual Macadam Cup, GKT FC has now enjoyed over a decade of dominance over KCL FC, the other football club at King’s, with recent victories of 2-1 in 2026, 7-1 in 2025 and 4-1 in 2024.
Success extends throughout the club. Our 2nd XI won their Wednesday league and secured promotion, remaining unbeaten and scoring a remarkable 56 goals in just 10 games. GKT FC is also the only club in London to have retained both its 1st and 2nd XI in the top division of the Saturday league for multiple consecutive years. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th XIs are equally competitive, with numerous promotions and trophy successes in recent seasons, highlighting the strength and consistency across all five teams.
Football at GKT extends far beyond the pitch. Alongside weekly socials at Guy’s Bar, we host joint events with clubs such as Football, Hockey, Netball and Cheerleading, creating plenty of opportunities to meet people across the university. Each year, our European Freshers’ Tour gives new members the chance to enjoy a weekend abroad with the team, with recent destinations like Poland, Bulgaria, Bosnia, and Hungary. From away tournaments such as NAMS to flagship events like Christmas Dinner and the Annual General Meeting, there is always something to look forward to.
With a thriving social calendar designed for both drinkers and non-drinkers alike, GKT FC is more than just a football club. It is a community as strong off the pitch as it is on it, offering one of the best opportunities to make friends and enjoy university life to the fullest.
