How to Avoid Walkovers

Learn how to prevent walkovers, avoid fines, and protect your club’s standing with this essential guide for team captains and clubs.

A walkover is a term used to describe a team not being able to fulfil a fixture on the date and time displayed on BUCS Play. Walkovers can happen for a multitude of reasons but usually lead to negative repercussions for the club, the team and KCLSU. We strongly advise teams to avoid conceding a walkover at all costs.

Walkovers are usually caused by a team not having the minimum number of competitors required to take part in a fixture, to avoid this we strongly recommend captains collect availability at least one month before a fixture. If it looks like you will not be able to fulfil a future fixture, please follow the “How to Move a BUCS Fixture” guide to move the game.

BUCS will fine teams the following amounts based on the type and number of walkovers conceded:

League

Loss of 3 league points per walkover and a minimum fine between £50 - £250 after three walkovers have been conceded. Premier Tier teams will be automatically relegated after conceding two walkovers.

Cup & Playoffs

An automatic fine between £250 - £750 for cup games. A £300 fine for each playoff game conceded.

A full list of fines can be found under BUCS Regulation 13: Results and Forfeitures on the BUCS website.

All fines will be paid by the club from the club account by KCLSU. When applying for funding and/or sending your league entries for the following season, KCLSU will take note of multiple walkovers, and this may impact these applications.
