KCLSU Funding Opportunities

 

KCLSU also provides funding for student groups for multiple different purposes, these funding streams are here to support your development as a student group or could be for specific KCLSU related project funding or events.

It should be noted that funding should not be seen as a source of income for your student group but as an add on to your events and/or activties. Funding is not in place of what should reasonably be self-funded through income generation. 

There are four funding windows throughout each academic year and each window will have different funding streams available to your student group to apply for funding. 

There is a limited budget for each funding stream that is set each year that is approved by the Trustee Board.

All key dates for opening and closing of applications for the below funding streams will be sent to Student Group Community Leaders through the Community Leaders Newsletter with plenty of notice. 

There are three different categories of funding at KCLSU with each category containing specific funding streams within them, each hae their own purposes and requirements which we have listed below:

Development Funding

Funding Stream Purpose Requirements Applications reviewed and approved by:
Student Group Development Funding
  • To support the Group's vision, purpose and activies for the year
  • To support student groups to build, nurture and value their community
  • To support Student Groups to come together and build their networks and collaborate across KCLSU
  • To support Student Groups to ensure sustainable development and ongoing impact of their activities and communities into the future
  • Eligibility: only KCLSU ratified student groups (not including academic associations) and sports club are eligible to apply.
  • Restrictions: funding cannot be used to subsidise tickets, for travel and expenses or for cash prizes or gifts.
Funding and Ratification Committee (FAR)
Competitions and Conferences Funding
  • To enable Student Groups to compete and/or represent KCLSU nationally
  • Eligibility: only KCLSU ratified student groups (not including academic associations). This funding stream is NOT available to sports clubs and any sports clubs will need to email fixtures@kclsu.org.
Coaches and Instructors Funding
  • To provide specialist training via qualified Coaches and Instructors
  • Eligibility: ONLY sports clubs are eligible to apply in line with the Student Groups Coaches and Instructors Policy
Accessibility Funding
  • To support Student Groups to run accessible activity and/or support their members
  • Eligibility: only KCLSU ratified student groups (not including academic associations) and sports club are eligible to apply.
  • Restrictions: funding cannot be used to subsidise tickets, for travel and expenses or for cash prizes or gifts.

Events Funding

Funding Stream Purpose Requirements Applications reviewed and approved by:
Black History Month Funding
  • To support the delivery of events or activities during Black History Month
  • The event or activity should: allows people to learn the current and/or historical oppression of the Black community, celebrate the achievements so far in the fight for Black liberation, challenge anti-Black racism and/or contribute towards building an equitable, accessible and inclusicve King's community
  • Eligibility: all Student Groups (including academic associations) can apply

 

  • Inclusivity: events or activity must be for members beyond a Student Groups current membership

 

  • Reporting: the project must have clear aims, objectives, timelines which are reported back to KCLSU

 

  • Restrictions: funding cannot be used to subsidise tickets, for travel and expenses or for cash prizes or gifts. 
Black Student's Network
Trans Awareness Festival Funding
  • To support the delivery of events or activities during Trans Awareness Week
  • The event or activity should; allow people to learn the current and /or historical oppression of the Trans community, celebrate the achievements so far in the fight for liberation, challenge transphobia and/or contributes towards building an equitable, accessible and inclusicvs King's community
Trans members of the LGBT+ Network
Disability History Month Funding
  • To support the delivery of events or activities during Disability History Month
  • The event or activity should; allow people to learn the current and /or historical oppression of the disabled community, celebrate the achievements so far in the fight for liberation, challenged ableism and/or contribute towards building an equitable, accessible and inclusicvs King's community

LGBT+ History Month Funding
  • To support the delivery of events or activities during LGBT+ History Month
  • The event or activity should; allow people to learn the current and /or historical oppression of the LGBT+ community, celebrate the achievements so far in the fight for liberation, challenge homophobia, contribute towards building an equitable, accessible and inclusicvs King's community
LGBT+ Students Network
Women's History Month Funding
  • To support the delivery of events or activities during Women's History Month
  • The event or activity should; allow people to learn the current and /or historical oppression of the women community, celebrate the achievements so far in the fight for liberation, challenge sexism and/or contribute towards building an equitable, accessible and inclusicvs King's community
Women Student's Network
One World Festival Funding
  • To spotlight and showcase faith, spirituality and culture Student Groups
  • To provide cross campus activity to ensure opportunities for engagement in the festival
  • To seek cross-collaboration opportunities to enhance the offer of culture and faith for members
  • To celebrate the work of KCLSU faith and culture groups and the valuable impact on the student community
Student Project Team
Arts Festival Funding
  • To spotlight and showcase arts and pop culture Student Groups
  • To provide cross campus activity to ensure opportunities for engagement in the festival
  • To seek cross-collaboration opportunities to enhance the offer of arts and pop culture for members
  • To celebrate the work of KCLSU arts and pop culture groups and their valuable impact on the student community
Funding and Ratification Committee (FAR)
Student Volunteering Week Funding
  • To support the delivery of events activity or initiatives for Student Volunteering Week
  • The event, activity or initiative spotlights or celebrate student volunteering 
  • The event, activity or initiative highlights the benefits of volunteering to the wider student population
  • The event, activity or initiative enables students to participate in volunteering and fundraising activity
  • Eligibility: all Student Groups (including academic associations) can apply
  • Inclusivity: events or activity must be for members beyond a Student Groups current membership
  • Reporting: the project must have clear aims, objectives, timelines which are reported back to KCLSU
  • Restrictions: funding cannot be used to subsidise tickets, for travel and expenses or for cash prizes or gifts. 

 

Welcome Events Funding
  • To support the delivery of Welcome events that aim to connect students during the Welcome period.
  • To support Student Groups to increase group membership
  • To enrich the student experience for all members during thw Welcome Period
Summer Series Funding
  • To support the delivery of events or activities in Londonn or on campus over the Summer Period
Vice President Welfare & Community
Wellbeing Events Funding
  • To support the delivery of Wellbeing events
  • Wellbeing events should aim to link to at least one of the Kings' 5 Ways to Wellbeing to be eligible for funding
  • Eligibility: only Student Group Wellbeing Leads are eligible to apply
  • Inclusivity: the event must be alcohol-free
  • Accessibility: the event must be opne to all members of the Student Group and the event must be free to attend
  • Reporting: the project must have clear aims, objectives, timelines which are reported back to KCLSU
  • Restrictions: funding cannot be used to subsidise tickets, for travel and expenses or for cash prizes or gifts.

 

 

Project Funding

Funding Stream Purpose Requirements Applications reviewed and approved by
Volunteer Project Fund (including Widening Participation Projects)
  • To support the delivery of projects that focus on volunteering with target groups of people who are statistically less likely to progress to university
  • To support the delivery of Volunteering Projects that would benefit the Kings College community or the wider local community or both
  • The event must centre around volunteering with a goal of supporting a community or cause
  • The event must actively help others or further the community within London or at King's University
  • The event must encourage students to actively help their communities through volunteering
  • The activity must create volunteering opportunities for King's Students to participate in
  • Eligibility: all Student Groups and Academic Assocations can apply, however funding is contingent on the Volunteer Project becoming ratified as per our Volunteering Policy
  • Reporting: funding cannot be granted to the same project twice within the existence of the project and funding cannot be used to subsidise tickets, for travel and expenses or for cash prizes or gifts.
  • Reporting: the project must have clear aims, objectives, timelines which are reported back to KCLSU
