Welcome to King's College London's Opera Society!
King's Opera funds and stages at least two operas annually, including a Fresher’s Opera, scenes, and other major productions. Even if you are not a singer yourself, King's Opera Society is a great way to just explore your love for opera.
There are also opportunities within King's Opera to gain experience in opera production, direction, artistic design, and backstage work.
Last year, we staged Strauss' Die Fledermaus at the Greenwood Theatre in term 1, as well as a sellout production of Britten's The Turn of the Screw in Strand Chapel in term 2. Our first production for the 2022/2023 season will be Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortileges, with our term 2 show TBC. Aside from productions, our programme will also be full of other performance opportunities, including frequent recitals, opera scenes, and masterclasses from industry professionals. There will also be free trips for members to opera performances and dress rehearsals in London plus monthly socials!
King's Opera holds frequent recitals which allow keen singers the opportunity to perform arias, opera scenes, and art song in a concert setting. Along with these extra chances to perform come the opportunities to gain experience in other aspects of opera; directors, musical directors, producers, and set and costume designers will also have the chance to learn through experience. Not only this, but our productions always require roles such as stage manager, flyman, lighting designer, front of house staff and much more! Even if you're not a singer, but an orchestral musician, become a member and get the opportunity to play in the pit for our productions! Along with the operas we are producing this year, there will be lots of masterclasses, workshops, talks and group trips to attend. A membership to King's Opera will allow exclusive performing opportunities, access to showcases and FREE entry to many other society events.
