KCL ABACUS is the ‘Association of British and Chinese University Students’. First established in 2005, we have been promoting both Chinese and British culture, through events ranging from celebrating major festivals (from Bonfire night to Chinese New Year), cultural dinners, activity socials, and charity events to intercollegiate nights out through our eight-university London ABACUS network for over 10 years.
Don’t worry if you’re not Chinese, ABACUS is here for you no matter if you just want to know the best Chinese restaurants in London, learn more about Chinese culture or simply to make new friends. We are a society that prides itself on including everyone so whatever you enjoy, there will be something we can offer you!
Internal events are managed solely by KCL ABACUS, and external events can be anything from participating in events run by the wider Chinese community in London, to joint university socials. ABACUS is a network across London where we often work with other universities to bring you the best possible experience. These include Imperial, UCL, LSE, Goldsmiths, Brunel, Queen Mary and SOAS, and activities range from formal gala dinners to nights out up to 1400 students!
We are constantly holding activity socials throughout the academic year, and encourage members to come and meet each other. Examples of past events are trampolining, bowling, ice skating and even a night time cruise down the River Thames. We also have sporting teams that we are proud of and play both socially and competitively. We compete in leagues against other universities in sports such as Football and Badminton.
Our membership entitles you to exclusive discounts from 10-20% off at various Chinese restaurants across London, cheaper tickets to all events as well as your very own annual membership card – we promise it will be worth your time!
