Meet your Student Officers!
Ben, Momin, Mariya, Jack and Mahamed were elected by King’s students in March 2016 to lead KCLSU, represent your views to the university and make sure your student experience at King’s is the best possible.
Ben was also a part of the 2015/2016 Student Officer Team as Vice President for Education(Arts & Sciences) and was elected as President for 2016/17. Momin, Mariya, Jack and Mahamed are elected Student Officers for the first time.
Student Officers lead KCLSU as Trustees (nine of our 13 Trustees are students), Organisers, Campaigners and Representatives.
- As Trustees they oversee the work of the Students’ Union as a democratic charity, making collective decisions at the highest level along with other KCLSU Trustees.
- As Organisers they support and empower King’s students to influence change in whatever matters to them.
- As Campaigners they champion change and student activism on the matters they’ve been elected to voice.
- As Representatives they amplify the voice of King’s students on their behalf to KCLSU, King’s College London and beyond.
As a democratic charity, we’re led by students for students. As well as your Student Officers there are also Student Reps and Student Councillors, all working to make sure that your views are heard and acted upon by KCLSU as your Students’ Union and the College. To find your Student Rep, contact your Student Councillors or find out more about the ways you can get yourself represented, visit our Representing You web pages.
Here you’ll find a short summary about what each of your Student Officers are responsible for and how you can get in touch. There’s also a link to their election manifestos that set out some of what they’ll be looking to do over the 2016/2017 academic year.
Ben Hunt, President
Student Officers) focus on empowering students to campaign about issues they care about be they academic, sporting, political or otherwise. I’m here as your elected representative to contact if you need support or advice.
Momin Saqib, Vice President for Activities and Development
I’m the lead Officer for supporting student activities, groups and societies, as well as for helping you develop employability and skills. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have questions or concerns relating to the above. Like the other Officers, I’m also available if you’re having problems of any kind. We work for you and we’re happy to help out in any way we can!
Mariya Hussain, Vice President for Education (Arts & Sciences)
I work on improving the student experience within the Arts & Sciences. This includes making sure our academic reps are supported and empowered to make changes within their Departments, as well as liaising with College academic staff and course representatives. My main education campaigns involve diversifying the curriculum, making materials accessible, and much more!
Jack Haywood, Vice President for Education (Health)
I spend my time working to improve all things education within the health schools, so that you can get the best out of your educational experience here at King’s. I do this by amplifying your voice within the university and working alongside student forums, student council reps, and academic reps. I also campaign on issues that matter to you such as fighting to reduce the financial pressure on NHS funded students and for better, fairer ‘fit to sit’, mitigating circumstances and plagiarism policies, to name a few.
Mahamed Abdullahi, Vice President for Welfare and Community
I’m the Officer to go to when it comes to student wellbeing! I work to support and empower all students in our community including international students, as well as students in liberation and interfaith groups. I can also provide help regarding issues affecting student lives outside of university, such as accommodation, and campaigning. It’s my role to promote engagement and build communities of under-represented students in KCLSU.
