Haasher was nominated Volunteer of the Month for thier volunteering with the Afghan welfare society.
Congratulations to Haasher! Our Volunteer of the Month!
Haasher Monib was nominated as Volunteer of the Month for their work volunteering with Afghan welfare society. We asked Haasher a few questions about their work with them!
What's been your favourite memory of volunteering?
If I had to choose one moment, it’s being involved in the whole process of planning a widening participation event to support aspiring healthcare students. From attending trainings such as, project planning and safeguarding to working alongside my team in creating the Presentation for the event. I have enjoyed being involved in marketing the event on social media and contacting schools to share our event. Delivering the event was such a fun experience in being able to have an influence on passionate students in supporting them with their aspirations and playing a role in their journey. It was really heart-warming to read the positive comments and feedback to see the impact my team had on other individuals.
What is your main motivation to volunteer with the Afghan welfare society
My main motivation to volunteer with AWS welfare society was to provide aspiring university students with the support and knowledge required to apply to medicine, specifically targeted towards students from widening participation backgrounds to help break down barriers that they may face on their pathway into medicine. Having personally experienced the rigorous application process to get into medical school, I am very passionate about widening participation and love to take every rewarding opportunity to give back and support others.
During my charity work, I have been fortunate in being part of an amazing team. Being able to give back to Afghanistan and support vulnerable families is something I also feel passionate about. Through my charity work and volunteering, in the past few years, I have been able to work on life-changing sustainable projects in developing countries such as Afghanistan.
What have you learnt from your time volunteering?
I have had the opportunity to adapt to many different volunteering roles; including facilitating bake sales, running & organising charity events as well as an outreach event. I have been able to develop on my problem-solving skills, organisation, and leadership skills through taking part in a wide range of opportunities. I’ve learnt that anything you do can have such a great impact on the lives of the people we are fundraising for and seeing the results afterwards makes it all worth it.
What would you say to anyone thinking about volunteering?
I would definitely recommend in taking part in any volunteering opportunity that you come across! It is heart-warming to meet great people and work together with others to have a positive influence and make a difference to those less fortunate than us.
A big thank you to Haasher for sharing that with us! If you know a volunteer you'd like to nominate to be recognised as volunteer of the month please go to this form!
