KCLSU to withdraw its support of the campaign to introduce smoking zones.
Students have decided in a referendum that KCLSU should withdraw its support of the campaign ‘to include smoking zones within each of King’s campuses and libraries.’
Voting ran from Monday 24 April through Thursday 27 April 2017 and was open to all students across King’s.
The results are as follows:
Total votes: 1,422
Votes to withdraw KCLSU's support for the campaign to introduce smoking zones: 991
Votes to continue KCLSU's support for the campaign to introduce smoking zones: 428
Abstentions: 3
Final outcome: KCLSU's support for the campaign ‘to include smoking zones within each of the King’s campuses and libraries’ will be withdrawn.
Background: A petition ‘to include smoking zones within each of King's campuses and libraries’ gained over 150 student signatures, meaning it became a KCLSU-supported campaign. However a student challenged the campaign. KCLSU’s support for a campaign can be overturned by a referendum in which 1,000 students must take part, with a decision being made by a simple majority.
