Get ahead with Careers

It is a truth universally acknowledged that after January deadlines and exams, there will follow a looming feeling to get your summer internship sorted. Or, even more looming-ly, if you’re in your final year, to get a job lined up before your family starts chit-chattering about your perpetual unemployment.

To the untrained eye, it can be rather daunting to even know where to start. However, have no fear, KCLSU and King’s Careers have got you covered – with a three step system to get your career and employability on track!

Step 1: Discover the different options that are available to you. Be it looking at King’s Careers’ handy Sector Guides – all available via their KEATs page, or, once you get a hang of what industries match your interest, by checking out their Target Jobs page with all the latest openings for undergrads, graduates and postgrads alike.

Step 2: Focus on developing your employability in your chosen sector by attending KCL organised networking events, applying for a King’s Internship, or even to work abroad with King’s Careers GoinGlobal programme. Remember that KCLSU also has lots of CV building opportunities available – whether you’re a Student Rep, Trustee, Officer, Society Leader or work for us as Student Staff, there’s always something happening at KCLSU that you can get involved in. Find out more about our latest opportunities over at the Work for Us page.

Step 3: Action your goals by getting your CV and cover letters sorted. Been staring at your CV for so long that you’re not sure if it’s in English or hieroglyphics? No worries, you can book an appointment with the King’s Careers Team who can help you go through your CV and help you prep for interviews and assessment days. What’s not to love? Even if this wasn’t enough, King’s Careers are hosting two upcoming events to get you into action – including a pannel with LGBT+ Employers and a China Careers Networking Night!
