Minorities and Philosophy Society

Membership is free and any KCL student can join and all our events are free to attend. We also have vacancies on our committee, email us if you'd like to be part of the team.

We are a society comprised of undergraduate and postgraduate students that is part of the international Minorities and Philosophy movement (a.k.a. MAP). Our aims are to enable the increased participation of minority groups in philosophy, and to encourage discussion from diverse perspectives.

We host a reading group promoting philosophy from minority perspectives. Following on from the BLM movement, in the first half of the first semester we will be reading black diaspora philosophers (e.g. Audre Lourde, Angela Davis, Frantz Fanon). Our reading group is a very relaxed. Even if you haven’t had chance to do the reading come along anyway to listen to the ideas or join in the discussion.

We also invite contemporary thinkers to give talks throughout the year and in the past, we’ve organised socials like picnics and film screenings.

Most importantly we work closely with the Philosophy Department advocating for diversity and inclusion through diversifying the curriculum and creating more incentives, financial aid and open-minded/international intellectual culture for minority students to pursue a career in philosophy.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates on events.
