Overview
Join us for the One World Cook-Along Series 2021 where some of our amazing societies will be cooking up a storm with their delicacies from all over the world! In this installement, the Armenian Society will be making Jingyalov Hats, a culinary delicacy coming from Artsakh. Jingyalov Hats (translating to ‘bread with jingyal’ in Armenian) is a traditional Armenian flatbread filled with finely diced herbs and green vegetables.
Traditionally, Jingyalov Hats is made from 15 to 20 different types of greens depending on the season, some of which are exclusively unique to Artsakh. The greens within this dish are collectively referred to as ‘jengyal’ in the dialect of Armenian spoken in Artsakh. It is believed that Jingyalov Hats rose to prominence during times of hardship as it was relatively cheap to make and has become very popular since then!
