Event Description

Monday 08 February 2021

1pm - 2pm

Interested in making a difference in your local community? Volunteering is a great way to gain skills, meet new people and do something great for a cause you care about.

Connect with Charities is a series of online workshops that will give you the chance to hear from a range of organisations and learn about what they do as well as how you can volunteer your time.  There are hundreds of volunteering opportunities across London and each workshop will focus on a different theme, helping you understand more about the different sectors.

This event is all about Political Change and will be looking at volunteer roles that could make a real difference to the lives of others. Whether you are interested in working in Health and social care, or you’re looking for a truly rewarding volunteering opportunity, there will be something here for you.

During the workshop, you’ll hear from each different charity having the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

  • KCL Sustainability Team - Interested in sustainability, gaining accredited environmental training and potential freebies for your time? Get involved with King's Sustainability in a variety of ways! With opportunities for IEMA accredited training amongst other training opportunities, volunteering with King’s is a great way to boost your CV.
  • The Democracy Volunteers - The Democracy volunteers aim to improve the quality of democratic elections, and have a team of volunteers who observe elections across the UK and further afield. They aim to report on observations in a constructive and encouraging way to benefit the delivery of democracy and to benefit the electorate as a whole.
  • KCLSU Widening Participation Buddy Scheme - Many students, especially those from backgrounds typically underrepresented at university take a bit of time to find their feet. By becoming a Mentor on the Buddy Scheme, you will help a first year Widening Participation student settle in by answering their questions and providing support. You can also choose to be matched with a Mentee who you share a similar background, hobbies and interests with.
  • Human Appeal - Human Appeal work across the globe to strengthen humanity’s fight against poverty, social injustice and natural disaster. Through the provision of immediate relief and the establishment of self-sustaining development programmes, they aim to invest in real, effective solutions.

To secure your virtual seat, simply register by buying a ticket. You will receive an email with the instructions on how to join. The charities and KCLSU are looking forward to seeing you there!
