Overview

Amidst rising debt and slowing GDP levels in the global economy UN experts and economists around the world have warned of the potential for a recession but whether the economy is going to collapse is the big question facing financial markets, executive suits and the corridors of power. In light of the US-China Trade Wars and Brexit, there is considerable uncertainty surrounding Britain’s future and whether it remains inside the world’s largest trading bloc or swims alone.

Join the King’s Think Tank’s Business and Economics Policy Centre for a panel discussion focusing on one of the most discussed topics these days: Are we heading towards a global recession? At our upcoming event we will delve into whether trade wars and deteriorating global growth have paved the way for a recession and if there are policy measures that can be taken to minimize the economic impact. Followed by a discussion among our expert panelists, the audience will also have a chance to engage in a Q&A session.

We will be joined by the following expert speakers:

Aekta Mahajan Patel is the Head of Venture Capital Unit at the Department for International Trade responsible for bringing investments from Venture Capital firms, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Family Offices and Ultra High Net Worth individuals to fund British companies. She previously lead on a range of government priorities for the Cabinet office. After graduating from King’s College London with a degree in Business Management, she joined Accenture’s Management Consulting program; followed by stints at Deutsche Bank and the Home Office. She is also the Cofounder of Young Asian Social Enterprise (YASE), a unique social enterprise scheme that strives to empower young people, particularly from Britain’s ethnic minority communities, to be able to achieve their academic and career aspirations. Aekta was identified as Management Today’s 'Top 35 Women Under 35' in 2012 and was shortlisted for the Women of the Future Awards.

Kay Neufeld is the Head of Macroeconomics at Centre for Business and Economists As a part of CEBR's macroeconomics team, Kay regularly contributes to CEBR's members service where he provides commentary on current economic events. Kay is also a key author and analyst for bespoke research on a variety of topics. His recent projects include an analysis of the economic contribution of the social housing sector to London’s economy for Peabody and several other reports covering the role of affordable housing. After graduating among the top 10% of his class from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Kay worked in the Structured and Corporate Finance Department at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, DC. Before joining CEBR Kay completed a MSc in Economic Policy from UCL where he specialised in the application of empirical methods and health economics. He demonstrated his skills in an empirical analysis of health differentials between parents and children in a developing country context.
