Overview

This event is to commemorate World AIDS Day and is a panel discussion with various experts on HIV and AIDS. The event will be co-hosted by KCL Sexpression and KCL LGBT+ society and with the intention of informing attendees about the different people HIV affects and its impact on the primary groups of women, men who have sex with men and sex workers. It will talk about innovations in HIV prevention, support for those living with HIV and elucidate key issues facing HIV activists and medics in 2018. The event will aim to represent the medical and social issues surrounding HIV.

The first hour will be contributions from the panellists, with the final hour open to questions from the audience.

Our panellists are:

Jason Domino
Jason is a sexual health speaker, porn performer and activist. He founded the website porn4prep and The Good Porn Project and works towards the reduction of HIV in the porn industry and safer sex within LGBT+ communities. Jason has spoken at the Human Rights Social Forum at the UN in favour of PreP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis).

Sylvia Petretti
Sylvia is the Deputy CEO for Positively UK, a leading provider of peer support for people living with HIV. She is also the current chair of the UK Community Advisory Board - the network for community HIV treatment advocates. Sylvia is a woman living with HIV and an advocate for the human rights of people living with HIV. She was diagnosed in 1997 and has been living openly with HIV since 2005, believing it is a powerful way to challenge the stigma and prejudice around HIV.


Greg Owen
Greg is the founder of the website IWantPrepNow that has helped bring about a vast reduction in the numbers of HIV diagnoses in the UK. Since his diagnosis of HIV he has been working to prevent other people contracting the virus. Greg is currently working at Terrence Higgins Trust - a leading HIV charity. He was also recently the focus of the BBC documentary “The People vs The NHS: Who Gets The Drugs?” detailing the story of the legal battle for PreP on the NHS.

Phil Samba
Phil is a heath improvement specialist and public speaking, currently working at Terrence Higgins Trust. Phil discusses the experience of HIV in BME LGBT+ communities and works to improve testing rates for black men. He is also heavily involved in the campaigns “It Starts With Me” and “PreP4blackqueermen”.
