Overview

King's Shakespeare Company presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With a small cast and a condensed script, this fast-paced performance is perfect for both Shakespearean rookies and those looking to celebrate an established love of the Bard. Theseus, the Duke of Athens, is planning her wedding to Hippolyta when she is interrupted by Egeus. Egeus’ daughter, Hermia, is in love with Lysander but Egeus wants her to marry Demetrius. After receiving an ultimatum from Theseus, Hermia and Lysander decide to elope, escaping to the forest. Upon hearing their plan, Helena (who loves Demetrius) tells Demetrius of their escape, and they decide to pursue them. Meanwhile, in the forest, the king and queen of the fairies (Oberon and Titania) are fighting over a changeling boy. Oberon decides that to obtain the changeling he is going to make Titania fall in love with some vile creature by using a love potion. With the help of his right-hand man, Puck, Titania falls in love with one of the actors who had been rehearsing a play for Theseus’ wedding in the forest until Puck gave him a donkey head. As the lovers wend their way through the forest Oberon decides to use the love potion on Demetrius so that he might love Helena. However, after a case of mistaken identity, desires become focused in new directions and chaos ensues. Lovers, fairies, and actors become entwined in a riotous story of magic, romance, and comedy that should bring a taste of summer into your spring.
