As part of Liberate Our Education Week we are hosting a screening of Absent in the Academy by Nathan E. Richards.
Absent from the Academy’ is a film about the relative absence of black academics and professors in UK Higher Education Institutions. There are 18,500 professors in the UK, only 85 (0.4%) of those are from African and Caribbean background whereas people from African and Caribbean backgrounds form 3.3% of UK population and 5.9% of UK student population. The film explores the impact of this underrepresentation on students, institutions, curricula and wider society.
