VOTE KINGSLEY #1 FOR VP POSTGRADUATE

                                                       Kingsley for King's Postgrads

I’m a PGR student in the Global Institutes under the Social Science and Public Policy Faculty. I’m the current Representative for the SSPP Faculty in the King’s Doctoral Students’ Association and have long championed postgraduate issues. I contested last year for the position of KCLSU President, running on and highlighting postgraduate issues (sorry guys I know :-) no prizes for second place finish :-( ). Anyways folks, this is a brand new position that has been added to the Students' Union and I’m extremely excited for the introduction of this new position of VP Postgraduate after many years of student activists fighting for the cause. I hereby present the issues I’ve always championed because I still believe postgraduate students deserve better.

THESE ARE MY PLEDGES:

EDUCATION

  • Get postgraduate funding increased including conference grants, maintenance grants and bursaries.
  • Get adequate spaces for postgrads which is still an issue and with the proposed movement to Bush House, ensure the work we have done in KDSA continues until postgrads get the spaces they require for effective study.
  • Secure better pay and a more standardised training for GTAs which would be tailored to the different faculties.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

  • Get the exorbitant and exploitative amounts that is currently paid for students halls of residences down to reasonable levels.
  • Get a fee freeze on postgraduate tuition which has been a burden especially on international students and fight for the re-introduction of the PhD scholarship hardship fund.
  • Completely scrap the pre-enrolment deposits that is now a requirement for postgraduate students.

SUPPORT

  • Increase the university experience for postgraduate students by enabling an atmosphere of more sense of belonging and also an increase of contact hours especially for PGTs.
  • Give premium attention to counselling services for mental health by increasing access, and a complete review of the current procedure that requires longer waiting periods.
  • Make students the priority and make their consultation the corner stone for every decision affecting them.

WELL BEING

  • Support inter faith groups, social inclusion and anti-discrimination campaigns because students deserve a safe space.
  • Get more publicity for postgraduate events and put innovation to increase interest and turn outs.
  • Create more opportunities for inter campus events and postgraduate networking between Denmark Hill, Guy’s and Strand.
