Candidate for the position of NUS Women's Conference Delegate

Hi everyone,

My is Imaan Ashraf, I'm a 3rd year Liberal Arts student and the current co-president of the Intersectional Feminist Society. In these elections, I'm running to be a delegate for the NUS Women's Conference. At the conference, I will ensure to bring all of your concerns to the forefront of the national agenda and will strive to represent you.

  • During my time at KCL, I've worked on the anti-sexual harrasment campaign, It Stops Here and will aim to support it on a national level. I will also push for consent and bystander workshops and safe spaces for survivors.

  • Ending the BME Attainment Gap. I've helped organise a conference called BME Woman White Uni which highlights the plight of BME Women in Academia
  • Fighting discrimination. As a Muslim woman of colour it's my prority to highlight the gendered islamophobic violence Muslim women face. With a 300% increace in Islamophobic hate crimes in the UK since the Paris attacks, I will ensure NUS takes this seriously.

  • As an NUS Delegate last year, I campaigned and voted for NUS Leadership. I will make sure the newly elected officers represent the KCL student body.
  • I will put it on top of my agenda to support women from marginalised communities in leadership positions and fight to eradicate the barricades we face.
